Hello,

I  have in this Mail Call a special request from Cathy, Dot Gleisberg's daughter. I have mentioned before that Dot was instrumental with the idea of a 517 website.

Also in this Mail Call a link sent us by another Belgian friend, Roger Marquet.
I think it is great. Click on all the side links and listen to the videos in both English and French. Terry Kelley is a Canadian but the Subject: "A pittance of time" could apply in any country

Found this photo in my families (Nello R. Arterburn) old scrap book.
Back of the photo says it was First Sgt. Dallas Long, 3rd Battalion, Co. G.
He looks like he was a tough cookie!
Photo is now on our web site

Happy Veterans Day!

Hi Ben!   The 1007 Mail Call was seemingly inundated with 'thank you veterans' with accent on 517 after 60 years!  The current active ones are no exception.  I only hope the enduring gratitude for our timeless troopers applies to the present day active members!  Ours is an unusually cohesive group.  When I joined the 517 in Georgia in the 1940's, little did I know what a lasting   tie it would be.
In that same vein, The descriptive gratitude from our Belgian friend, Irma Targnion, was heartfelt by her story of her childhood when we arrived in her area.  Thanks and god luck to you Ben.  Walt-(WWS)hq1

"On November 11
Remember those who came before us
And fought
So that we could be here today."

Look at the video, it's worth it.

Hi again Ben!
I kept the phone # you gave me and waited until I could get an early morning time and possible make contact with the owner of that Robert Steele # personally in lieu of an answering machine.  I talked with him at 12:00 noon our time which was, I believe, 9:00 California time.
`He was considerate but answered:  "No, I know nothing of another Robert but how old would he be."  I told him about my age, around 82 years of age.  He said, "Well, I don't know of him but I am personally 72 years of age."  So much for that contact, Ben.  Sorry.

Hello Ben,

Would you be kind enough to include this in the next mail call? I have already taken the liberty of sending any comments received from 517th  members to the webmaster. We would like any other 517th members to include their comments if they wish. My sister Lee is the one that spearheaded this.
Thanks
Cathy

My mothers love was a precious gift!

With the great support of my friend, Dawn Suiter, of Bodyflight Webdesigns, I am honored to share this with you.

Ben,
I am reading Paratrooper Odyssey and on page 114 it describes the 1st Battalion attack of Dec 22-24 and how they secured la Roumiere.  I cant find any other information until Chapter VI, The Ardennes Counterattack on Jan 1, 1945.  Can anyone tell me exactly where and what campaigns the 1st Battalion was in between Christmas, Dec 25 and Dec 31?  Were they part of Taskforce Kane?
