Hello ,

Mail Call is an attempt to keep members informed and to help to perpetuate   the 517 PRCT. I try to avoid religious and political issue as well as jokes .However, you can still send them to me. I try to avoid controversy unless it would be helpful.  If you don't want your mail in Mail Call, please tell me.

I talked to representative of  . www.armedforcesreunions.com  today and they were enthusiastic about dealing with us. They will send me broaches and more information .Let me know your opinions.

Lou Darden has resigned as president of the Auxiliary. Lou and Jesse hosted a most successful  Oklahoma City reunion  and have been active in 517 activities. Helen Beddow is the new president of the Auxiliary.

West Coast Reunion 2006
Palm Springs, Ca. April 2-7

Annual reunion July 17-22, 2006
Portland , Oregon
Claire Giblin  (about www.armedforcesreunions.com

Hi, Ben -
I've visited this link previously, and I noticed that you brought a printout with you to Bradenton.  I really, REALLY like this idea, and I think that we're running out of people who have the various abilities (time, inclination, organization, and physical abilities) necessary to put on a great reunion.  I know that as a member of the Auxiliary, I don't get a vote, but I really do think it's a great idea.  A lot of troopers are still able to get together, but the planning and organization is worth delegating.
I bet it doesn't wind up costing much more, either.  It could even be a savings, considering that they have more buying power than the 517 ever will.
This is one of the most active WWII units around.  Using a reunion service could help keep it that way.
Take care -
Claire

As you and I talked at the Mini in Bradenton I think it's something we should consider.  I would like some additional information as to cost, etc.

We aren't getting any younger and very few of us have the energy or time to take this project on.  The best reunion I attended since 1986 was Savannah.  Helen Beddow started working on this in Oklahoma two years before it took place and what a job she and Hal did.

I was very surprised when I received an E-mail from Lou Darden resigning as President of the Auxiliary today.  To do a good job it's a full time thing and I am sure Lou had to much on her plate.  She is probably still tired from putting on the Oklahoma reunion.  I am not sure if Claire Giblin works or has the time but she is a go getter and would do a great job as President.  Just a thought.

Even thought I voted to have a reunion every year I have changed my mind.  Frankly I think that some of our members really can't afford to take two major trips each year.  I think we should go back to having reunions every two years.  I think the Portland reunion will prove that out.  I didn't talk to anyone at the Mini that was going.  I think the attendance will be very slim.  As I lived in Portland when I got out of school (1951) and like it, I would probably go but Chris Lindner's daughter is getting married that weekend so that is where I will be, in San Antonio, Texas.

With that said I think we should wait two years and give the professionals at try.

Hey there, Darrell, and thanks for the kind words,
but the point you raise - that troopers can't afford to take two trips a year - is exactly why we should be having yearly reunions.  If 06 is in Portland, then what, we're going to wait until 08 for a reunion in maybe middle America or the East Coast?
I think that the Portland reunion will be reasonably well attended, especially by the fairly large West Coast contingent that didn't make it to Savannah last year.  I'm hoping for 07 on the East Coast or in the middle, and 08 to be the opposite.
We gotta keep having them so people can make them.   Everyone can't go to all of them, but the more opportunities, the better.
And by the way, Helen will make a great President, and I think it's a good idea for me to work with her for a few years before I take on anything this big.  Too scary.
Take care -
Claire

Ben,
Does anyone know how I could get copies of the Company D, PIR, Morning Reports for January 2 and 23, 1945?  Clark Archer had told me that they list my father's (Sgt. Leon Bosse) injuries?   Thank you.
