Thanks for
the roster. Since I maintain a roster like that myself, I know what a
monumental task it is. Who ever did it did a great job.
By the way,
would you pass on to the planners of the Washington D. C. reunion, there is one
thing that should be put on the activity schedule. That is the weekly
Friday evening retreat at the Marine barracks on I street. It is a
magnificent event. Take care.

Dear
Ben,
Hope all
is ok with you.
I permit
myself to forward you some additional documents on Cpt. James P. Birder (KIA in Bergstein, 1945), in complement
to the pictures sent by Mrs. Terry Casey (J. Birder’s sister). They might be
interesting for the website, and will enable to keep a souvenir of this
excellent officer. He was very young (22 only) but most appreciated.
I just
want to recall the words of John J. Strojan (I Co.)
who personally knew him: “he was always with his troops, in the lead and caring
for the welfare of those in his command”.
Among the
documents you will find:
-Picture
of James Birder leading his company for a parade in Nov. 44 on Place Massena –
Nice. By the way, a local newspaper edited a close-up picture of Cpt. Picture, joined as well.
-A very
interesting article about the war on the French Riviera, far from the said
“campaign of champagne”….
-Combat
Promotion letter dated 15
September 1944
mentioning the Col de Braus above Sospel
-Document
for Citation – French Croix de Guerre awarded to Cpt.
Birder.
With best
regards,
Frederic
