Dear Ben,

I am so sorry to hear of Jan Hensleigh's passing yesterday.  Try as I might, I cannot find the words to describe the loss this is to the 517.  On the official level, she helped establish the Auxiliary, our hope of securing the legacy of the 517 for future generations.  On the personal level, she was charming, smart, and kind.  Devoted to Howard, she was a wonderful woman.  I so enjoyed getting to know her at reunions, and we will miss her.  I am sure that the 517 family will keep Howard and the Hensleigh family in our collective thoughts and prayers.

Claire Giblin, 1st VP 517 Auxiliary

Please extend my condolence to Howard on the loss of his wife. His description of her passing exemplifies to me his grand love for her.

I spoke with Uncle George by phone last week and he mentioned the "Malmedy Massacre" and that he actually viewed the site on the following day as he was jeep driver for upper echelon Army brass. According to him things got a lot uglier for the Nazi's after this occurred. The SS Commander who ordered the massacre was named Peiper. Read the interesting write up about his strange death in later life. You can cut and paste the following URL.                                             JW.                                                                                                                                                                            http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/timeline/malmedy.htm

December 27, 1944 at Manhay . Approximately 50 German were killed and 29 captured. More prisoners might have been taken, but the 3rd Battalion had just returned from the Malmedy area where it had seen and heard of the results of the massacre of American prisoners. After Malmedy it was not easy for an SS man to surrender.

Today my baby girl's 18th birthday I be so glad that this be my last
>child support payment! Month after month, year after year, all those damn
>payments! So I call my baby girl, LaKeesha, to come to my house, and when
>she get there, I say, "Baby girl, I want you to take this check over to yo
>momma house and tell her this be the last check she ever be gettin' from
>me, and I want you to come back and tell me the 'spression on yo mama's
>face." So, my baby girl take the check over to her momma. I be anxious to
>hear what she say, and bout the 'spression on her face. Baby girl walk
>through the door, I say, "Now what yo momma say 'bout that?" She say to
>tell you that "you ain't my daddy" .. and watch the 'spression on yo face.
