Bob,
Attached is the update roster and
Mailing List, after your floppy disk edits. The mailing list is now only
367 names. Over 900 names were removed from the mailing list. I
might still be missing some T-bolt updates from the last issue, I have yet to
get to it, but I will. If you have kept me up to date via e-mail, then we
are all set. I have to go back up to OH in a few
hours.
Bob, I will give you separate
instructions on how to make your update life easier, for the T-bolt
updates.
I hope everyone is well. Best time
of the year, with all of the college football.
Best regards,
Tom Reber

Ben and all,
I am very
saddened to hear of Lou and Jess and their encounters with their health
problems. It appears that the sun broke through and both are doing better - keep
it that way, please - and my prayers for both.
I also noted
Howard Hensleigh's encountering a series of unfortunate events following Jan's
passing. I think often of Jan and the wonderful, caring support she offered in
Margaret's last days. One of Margaret's favorite pastimes was playing cards and
at one time she was quite good at it. Life was difficult at a later time and
during our visits Jan would spend hours with Margaret. Over recent years we have
lost many of our troopers as well the fine ladies who shared our lives for so
many years-we needed all the help we could get. I am sure our loved ones are
resting peacefully in a better place. I miss each and every one of
them.
I have been out of communication for most of last
week or so-nothing unusual about that. However, I have a new laptop computer
capable (the computer-not me) of wireless operation for both Mac and PC-how
about that! Can't say I understand most of the mechanics of it and while
traveling I must seek a wireless source. I have to go to Starbucks, or similar
site, to be able to use the confounded machine. I have a wireless modem in OR,
but not when traveling. I will return to OR sometime in coming week. I am
writing this in CA on my 10 year old Mac that has not been used, and has been
gathering dust, for at least 4 or 5 years. I found all the necessary parts,
hooked it up and by golly it works, however slowly.
A word,
if I may, on the recent election and I hope all were able to vote. We may not be
pleased with the qualifications of certain candidates or a particular political
party or platform. We do have our freedom of choice. If we are unhappy with the
outcome of an election we must then remind ourselves this country and our system
of government has existed under depressions, inflation, peace, and war, for
several hundred years. The sky has not yet fallen, regardless of our political
party. These are dangerous times and we are now confronted with a danger that
could not even be imagined in past years.
The US, and the
balance of the western world, is now faced with Islamic extremists who march to
the tune of their own drummer. They have exhibited no concern over their
death, the death of their enemy, innocents, or the innocents of even their own
country. Saddam Hussein, who was sentenced to death on November 5, 2006, was
responsible for the death of hundreds of thousands of his own people. His use of
poison gas, a Weapon of Mass Destruction, WMD by the way, brought about the
death of many thousands of his own Iraq Kurds as well as his enemy, Iran. The
Islamic extremists have been responsible for 21 attacks on major US facilities
since 1979, as well as the deaths of several thousand American and allied
personnel. These twenty-one attacks took place during the period in which
five US President's served. So it does not seem to be the American political
party in power that drives their attacks. Further, 7,581 terrorist attacks have
taken place worldwide (from a variety of terrorist organizations) during that
time.
Regardless of the outcome of the battles in Iraq or
any other Muslim country where we may face the threat; the attacks on the
western world will continue. The Islamic extremists do not merely want us to
leave; they will continue with attacks to destroy the western world and it's
"infidels." The great majority of the Muslim world are decent people; just as
the Germans and Japanese populations were generally decent people under their
respective leaders. However, we fought two wars since 1914, against the "decent
population of Germany."
Let me leave you with comments from
Dr. Vernon Chong, an American Major General, USAF (Ret).
"France has a
20% Muslim population as is incapable of controlling a criminal element (the
majority are respectable and decent citizens); Spain is currently hostage to the
extremists; and England has more mosques than Christian churches. The Muslim
religion is not the largest religious order, however it is the fastest growing.
If you recall the Irish Republican Army (IRA) was banned in England and Ireland
as a criminal organization for it's bombings.
General Chong
stated the responsibility of our leaders must be to unite this country and
direct efforts to this most critical task "save our nation." Balance this
responsibility with military recruiters currently unable to recruit on college
campus and the ROTC banned from most high schools and colleges. Where are we
going?
God Bless all and God Bless
America

Ben & Bob,
Did not have
opportunity to look at my thesis until this AM in my
wireless coffee shop and
on my other comp without a printer. One does
not get the perspective unless in
print.
As I look at it on the computer-it likely would
take 3 or 4 pages!!
What is happening on the Wade
project??
So, if we have a space problem, lets do
this:
1. Include the introduction from
previous
2. Then:
With
the election let's not forget we have our own responsibilities:
1. Portland is pleasant history and we are looking at the
forthcoming
July 2007 in Washington, DC. The planners Claire and Helen
need your
reservations for the gathering as well as your hotel
reservations. We had a
fit estimating our room, meals and unit
information for our planning in
Portland.
2. We have both the Florida and Palm
Springs events arriving in
the near future. The above considerations apply to
those as well.
3. With Florida (January) arriving
very soon-we will need
volunteers to host the 517 2008 event, and hopefully
it can be
presented in Florida or Palm Springs and approved in DC
4. A slate of officers should be presented in Florida
for
subsequent approval.
5. I have received several
calls from individuals concerned about
disability "getting around" in DC. I
share their concern, however I
assured them that DC is probably the best
community in the world for
resolving that problem and that the planners have
that as their first
concern.
See you all in
Florida - I will not allow any changes to my travel plan - ha.
