Hi,
I would like to make a correction about my
dad, Odas Sweet. He was with "H" company not "A" company. If anyone knew him
,please let me hear from you! I have found an abundance of information on the
517th website. I will be adding some pictures as soon as I receive them from my
mom "Sara". Thanks to all of you who have contributed. It is difficult to find
information outside of my computer and the internet.

Ben, Last month John Schaffner(106) & Lil; Walt Snyder(106 &
POW for 3
months); Dave , Post-war vet) & Arline; June & I had
the extreme
pleasure of hosting Eddie Montford to dinner at one our of most
famous
restaurants.
Eddie was here for another visit in the D.C. , Va. and
Baltimore area.
While in this area he was the guest of John Schaffner. What a
wonderful
time we had. Eddie is a great guy and friend of the 517th. I have a
few
pictures of us at the dinner, but am unable to send them on my
Web-Tv
since I do not have a printer. Will check to see if my son or a
very
good friend will do it for me.
Eddie said, if possible
he will try to make our D.C. reunion. Not
sure if he can make two trips here
the same year. He works for a
company, similar to our Home Depot, and is in
the process of building
his house, by himself.
he send his regards to all
his friends from the 517th.

For Claire Giblin and Ben,
I am Tom Copsey, son of John Copsey, Company I. I live in the DC area
and would like to help however I can for the 07 reunion. Pop is no longer
with us but he sure will be happy to know that his old outfit is gathering in
his "little home town" as he used to call it. Looking forward to it.
Cheers

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the info ! I think my dad had a nickname of
"toot sweet" if that rings a bell . He joined the 517 in 1943 because the pay
was better and was discharged in 1945 after the war.
He fought in Italy, France, and Belgium at the Battle of the
Bulge. I am not sure about Germany. He brought home a German luger, and a belt
buckle. The luger somehow ended up in my dads brothers hands and where it is now
is a mystery. I have the belt buckle and a few medals but a lot of his belongings
have been lost or stolen over the years. He and one of his buddy's recovered some
silver from a wrecked airplane engine and both had identical rings made from the
silver. My dads ring was stolen by one of my sisters friends when we were
young. Those things are much more important now that I am grown. They sure can't
be replaced.
Near my home here in West Chester
Ohio, There is a road named Barrett Rd after the Barrett farm which is nearby.
There is an intersection with another road named Grinn. They can hardly keep the
street signs at that intersection of Grinn and Barrett. Just wondered if you may
be related to the Barrett's here... My mom has the names of a couple of my dads
army buddies that I am going to look up . One of which is Willie Starnes .I
just hope it's not too late!
Thanks again
Rick Sweet
