It is with sadness that I let you know that our father, Richard Havill,
passed away on January 6th.  He was a proud member of the 517th.  We
would like to know if there is a memorial fund established by the 517th that our
family could list for those who would like to remember Richard
(Dick) Havill.
Ben:
You might Wayne's message of Interest. I would like
to see the our French friends at Sainte-Roseline take advantage of our 517th
Parachute Regimental Combat Team Web-Site.
Wayne's message mentioned the 1st Allied Airborne
Army instead of the 1st Airborne Task Force and placed our National Reunion in
Washington, D.C. in May of 2007 instead of June of 2007. Hope he gets a response
from Sainte Roseline. Their wine is excellent and we remember them well.  The
Baron's family was
of great assistance to us on during the initial phase of Operation Dragoon
in August of 1944.

My name is Wayne Cross.  I am very interested in finding out if
your wines are exported and available in the Washington, D. C. area.  I am
the son of an World War 2, American Paratrooper (Colonel Thomas R. Cross) who
served with the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team (PRCT) that
participated in the liberation of Southern France as part of the First Allied
Airborne Army.  My father was the Executive Officer of the 2nd Battalion of
the 517th.  He was wounded outside of Le Muy during the Jump and evacuated
to the Chateau Sainte-Roseline which at the time was being used as the
517th Regimental Headquarters and aid station.  My father has always
told my family how wonderful the people were that offered aid and comfort to his
men and to the wounded soldiers of the 517th at great risk to
themselves.

My Father's Regiment has a national reunion every year and although their
ranks are thinning out with age, they are still a very close group of men and
enjoy getting together with family and friends to renew their close bond.
If you are interested in learning more of the 517th PRCT , their website is
really quite remarkable and can be visited at:
It contains many photographs and recollections of this fine group of
soldiers.

I would appreciate it if someone could get back to me with information
about any distributors you may have in the United States who carry your wines or
how your wine might be imported and what that process might be.  I am
looking in to if it would be feasible to serve your wine at their next reunion
which is in May of 2007. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Sincerely,
Wayne C. Cross

Hi all.... If I am late in saying it .... HAPPY NEW
YEAR!

I have just another section to the WWII that I
set up as a memorial to our dad.... The new section includes photos from the
various 596/517 reunions that he and mom attended. http://www.markleweb.com/wwii/index_12.html ...and
scroll down to Reunions.

Bob/Ben, as usual... you are welcome to any/all of
the photos that I have in place here. If you need higher res scans (for
printing), just let me know. We have names on many of the faces, but not all.
Any assistance is appreciated.

Ben: Here is another of Wayne's messages of interest. It shows the present
configuration of Chateau Sainte
Roseline. The location of the where the 517th PRCT Command Post and Aid
Station is easy to locate and brings back a lot of memories of our first 48
hours in Operation Dragoon.

Yes, would like to receive Mail Calls.  The Web Site is
fantastic and EXTREMELY helpful for those looking for information.  Wife
and I are headed for the Mediterranean in October 2007 and will visit Italy and
France.  Would like to visit some of the areas my father was at; but, he
didn't talk to me much about what he did there or where he went.  That
seems to be a common thread among many of these veterans.
The website has been very helpful in finding out
where the 517th was at during WWII; the links to other sources is great.  I
think I will soon have visited every part of the site and am working on all the
links.  I'll be buying a few of the books that are suggested reading.
Again, thanks for the work you do!

Dear Ben,
Excuse me if I am wrong with this pictures (the
first time I test my new camera) I hope you receive  those photos of
saturday 2007 january 6th. The religious service in St Jacques Church, the
ceremony at St Jacques monument, Rochelinval, 551st monument, Logbiermé, 517th
monument. Many persons attended the Mass and the ceremonies;
Father Radermecker had special prayers for the US
soldiers and Maria also. She added a prayer for our dear friends veterans who
died in 2006; we were happy because many young people took part. Best wishes and
love from Ardenne. Irma Targnion.
