Washington Reunion June 28-July 2 . All rooms for early arrivals are taken. Banquet Sunday July 1. Depart Monday July 2
I have been thinking about writing this letter for a while, because I
wanted to give General Seitz kudos of appreciation. While at the
Bob Barrett and Steve Merkle ( more mail between Bob and Steve but I am waiting for a conclusion. - Ben )
Steve,
About Ropyak/Repyak, I can’t help there.
There are some misspellings even in
the 1944 Christmas list. (My Dad’s
name was spelled wrong.)

Information
I have started a
project on consolidating member references for the men of the 596, with any name
reference that I can find (pictures/documents, etc.). The 1st draft is attached
for your review. I will modify this as we go and hope to fill in some more
blanks when I will be attending the reunion in DC with my family and
Mom.
In the 1st pass, I have found a
couple of names (Corwin Clark and Lewis Barbera) that were listed on the 517 KIA
list without unit affiliation. I believe that both of these guys were associated
w/ the 596 ... at least initially. They are both referenced in the large group
photo that I had sent in (via Mickey Moses). Unfortunately I cannot confirm with
any other document.
Also on the KIA list there is a soldier named Francis T. Ropyak that was
killed. This document (http://www.517prct.org/records/jun_jul_aug44_596.jpg ) Shows his name as Francis T. Repyak. Is
there any way to confirm which is right? I do not have any other reference to
either name.
Thanks for all you do and look
forward to meeting.

Thank you for a wonderful
resource. A friend and I are working on a New Paperback edition:
Sarah ?
role-playing game to be set during
WWII. Our first campaign will follow
the 517th, to honor this brave and
under-appreciated unit. I am only 24,
and I am glad to see websites like this
one to preserve the memory of an
important time.
