JOHN F. BUCHALSKI
Good Evening Ben:
My Uncle (Boom Boom Alicki) is presently
at home under doctors care and
Hospice providers. It looks like he has
an unknown medical problem - I
spoke to him about it today and he is now down
to 108 pounds and his
voice is very weak. His wife Georgia is holding
up as well as can be
expected under the present circumstances.
Unfortunately, I cannot
travel to see him due to my own medical problems - My
wife and I pray
for him daily. John was my childhood mentor and I
obviously always
looked up to him - I have visited with him when ever the
opportunity
presented itself. I know that John was very proud of the
517th PRCT and
always had wonderful words about the men and officers he was
associated
with. It would be nice if the 517th folks could send him a
note or two,
I am sure it would light a spark in his heart. He always
mentioned how
many Generals the 517th produced of those that made a career of
the
Army. I also mentioned to him about one such Officer - Gen Larry
Zais.
He had an ROTC Hall named after him at the University of New
Hampshire
with his picture in the ROTC Hall. In closing I want to pass
John's
words of God bless all of the men of the 517th and thanks for the
e-mail
notice.
"FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF
YOU"
Hi John,
JOHN F. BUCHALSKI
Hi
Ben:
From my conversation with Boom Boom yesterday, I don't know if he
still
has e-mail. His wife Georgia is not handling his e-mail.
She can be
contacted at their phone number <828-728-9882>. If the
folks wish to
send him a note or card his address is MAJ John A. Alicki
(Ret), 129
Roberts Lane, Lenior, NC 28645-8926.
John has lost weight
and continues to do so and he is now down to 108
pounds and his voice is very
weak. His thoughts are with God at this
time - he is sinking
fast.
His doctor has no hope and he is presently at home under Hospice care.
I
feel I had my last talk with Boom Boom yesterday and said my
"farewell"
to him.
My medical problems prevent me from making a trip
to Lenior and visit
with him. Otherwise I would have been their at his
bedside. John was
aways my military mentor in life. The last time
I seen him was on my
return from Korea while he was stationed in Japan with
the CIC folks.
By all means let the folks know of his condition and feel
free to send
him their prayers and cards. I am sure it would make him
happy to hear
from the 517th as he thought very highly of the 517th PRCT.
Feel free to
print any of the information I have written to you - he still
may have
his e-mail in active status as I never did check it out to see if
he
would answer.
With best regards, JOHN F. BUCHALSKI
