You are proving that Apple is easier than PC's!!!  Thanks--Edith Miller

HOWARD HENSLEIGH

Ben:  My stationary has not caught up with me and I have had trouble in getting email to Steve Markle and Bill Hudson, who were so kind to come by and welcome me to this part of California.  My thanks to email, you Ben and both of them for their generosity.  Steve brought a CD of VP Cheney's address.  They both have 596th roots, but consider themselves an integral part of the 517th Combat Team.  Bill's platoon was attached to the 3rd Bn. so much of the time, where they cleared the mine fields and patched up the mountain roads, that he almost felt that he had two COs, Forrest Paxton and Bob Dalrymple.

Hope that bite out of the Apple tastes good, Ben.  Howard H

DIXIE WELBORN

Ben:  Just read in the obits of the Fresno Bee, (California) that Jack Anderson (and I think he was Company F, 517th,) had passed away on Wednesday, August 8th.  Jack was a retired deputy sheriff.  We had met Jack and his wife, Esther, at some of the reunions, but due to health problems, they have not attended for several years.

KAREN GOODLET

Hello Ben,  my name is Karen Goodlet.  My mother was married to Layton Pippin, cousin of Morris McDowell.  I am currently Chairman of the Ft. Oglethorpe Downtown Development Authority. We are getting ready to streetscape but since my husband and I have a restaurant at the entrance to Chickmauga National Military Park, I thought this would be a great time to get some information from you about World War I, and II.  The WACS were up the hill from our restaurant located in Hutcheson Medical Center formally know as Tri-County Hospital.  We have been told that their was a military hospital located on our property and their were yellow flags placed their during World War II so the soldiers would not shoot.  This is such a historical location and I would love to have any information I can get.  We are in the beginning stages and the D.D.A. has property loaned to us by the City to place signs, memorabilia, and I would like for these to be professional.  I am currently talking to a sign co.  They are going to do some drawings for me to present to the D.D.A. and then to the City Council.  I can't tell you how excited I am.  This is such an opportunity for us.  I am also the North Georgia Correspondent for the Chattanooga Times Free Press.  ( Catoosa County)  I have heard so many good things about you from Morris. I look forward to hearing from you.   Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Karen Goodlet

WALT SMITH

Hello my friend, Ben, who long since has earned the title of Mr. Barrett.
Just curious, while I am in a cool air conditioned house watching the PGA tournament, just wondering what your test is a bout?
ARMD,Age Related Macular Degeneration. along with spinal stenosis sp? makes everything more difficult for me  Reading emails and seeing my mistakes are preventing me from being real active here.  God has been kind to me so far in this life and hope he is still kind to you..  GOD'S BLESSING TO YOU......

LORY CURTIS

Ben,
A question for Lisa Lee.  What Battalion was your father in?  I see you said
he was in a Headquarters Company.  My Dad was in Headquarters Company. First
Battalion.  Maybe my Dad knew your Dad if he was in First Battalion?  Let me
know.
