News came in today from a 460th member.
1st Sgt Robert L. Armstrong of B Bty 460th Prct FA Bn passed away in Dec2007.
He lived in Southington, OH.  No family contact information.  Just the 460th men.
He was a great 1st Sgt.  The men thought highly of him and loved him.

For Bob Dalrymple.  Bob, thank you for your kind words concerning the 2nd Battalions operation near St  Vith. You were most thoughtful and I appreciated your remarks. Bob, the credit belongs to those great 2nd Battalion troopers.  They are truly great Americans, just like those great paratroopers you had in your outstanding Engineer unit.  All of us in the 517th Combat Team can take great pride in the magnificent men who filled the ranks of the Combat Team.  Airborne all the way! Steve:
thanks for including me.  I was planning to go with my folks to Palm Springs but am recovering from a back injury and am out of it for a while.
I am dismayed to learn of the fire in St Louis and the loss of records.  I wonder if we (the 517th) might be able to help them restore their records by organizing to send copies of the records we have to them.

I AM CURRENTLY WORKING ON PUTTING TOGETHER A SHADOW BOX OF HIS MILITARY MEMORABILIA AND I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT RIBBONS AND / OR METALS MY DAD MAY HAVE HAD ON HIS JACKET.  I HAVE WRITTEN FOR COPIES OF HIS DISCHARGE TO THE MILITARY RECORDS ARCHIVES IN ST. LOUIS, MO AND THEY WROTE BACK TELLING ME THAT THEY MAY HAVE BEEN LOST IN A FIRE THAT DESTROYED A LOT OF MILITARY RECORDS DATING BACK FROM 1906 TO THE 1950’S.  HIS JACKET HAS A RED BRAID THAT LOOPS AROUND THE LEFT SHOULDER THROUGH THE LEFT SHOULDER FLAP.  HIS CAP HAS A PATCH WITH A PARACHUTE AND A GLIDER BORDERED IN RED.  I HAVE SEEN THIS PATCH BEFORE ON THE OTHER WEB SIGHTS, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT IT STANDS FOR.

Ben,   We are getting one out of three e-mails.  If we go for a while without one, Joyce checks the archives to see what we've missed.  Just to keep you informed.  Am really looking forward to the "new" Thunderbolt thanks to Helen and Claire.

My mom Jo Anne Spencer Clark (Dick Spencer of 517th) wondered if you have a roster of the still-living 517thers. Please keep her in your prayers, she was diagnosed with an aggressive rare breast cancer. BJ

Ben -

I'm working on a chronology of the 2nd battalion, with an emphasis on E Company. I've got a lot of information, but need more. What I'm curious about is the period after the 517th came off the line in February 1945. I know you were folded into the 13th Airborne Division and trained for a later combat jump which, fortunately, never occurred.

Anything you, or the other troopers can give me about how you were combined with the 13th, and especially information about who was selected to join the 82nd in Berlin, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for everything you all did, and still do.

Myrle is doing pretty well now but had quite a holiday session with the doctors and hospital.  We are really going to try to attend the reunion in St. Louis if his health hold up.
Thanks for asking.

Ben,

This can't be.........no mail???  This must be a bad joke!

I have just come off of a very hard working Holy Week and Easter Sunday, and I was expecting some mail from Mail Call to give me some relaxation.  What a downer!!! This is what I read first when I open my email.  Double Downer!!

Claire and I are waiting, patiently and impatiently, for the phone call for us to check the proof for the Thunderbolt.  This is like waiting for a baby to arrive and it is not quite ready to happen.  We don't have the first issue out yet, and last week we were already talking about ideas for the August 2009 - 65th Anniversary issue.  That will be a super special Thunderbolt for our 517th guys.  While we have ideas twirling in our heads, we are always open to ideas from others.

I hope when I check my email tomorrow, there will be a "for real" Mail Call.

WHEN ALL THE LIGHTS GO ON AGAIN (ALL OVER THE WORLD)
(Eddie Seller / Sol Marcus / Bennie Benjamin)
Bing Crosby

When the lights go on again all over the world
And the boys are home again all over the world
And rain or snow is all that may fall from the skies above
A kiss won't mean "goodbye" but "Hello to love"
When the lights go on again all over the world
And the ships will sail again all over the world
Then we'll have time for things like wedding rings and free hearts will sing
When the lights go on again all over the world
