Hello,
Just arrived at 3:AM in smoky and hot Bay Area Bay area, but will soon head to
Tahoe.  I am trying to get a Mail Call out on daughter's computer since laptop will not be hooked up until I get to Tahoe in a few hours. May have to stay packed in case of fires. Heck, I've been thru worse.

 Dear Ben:
Would you please let Betty and Merle Traver know how much we appreciated the link to the video interview  of the remarkable and very talented painter who paints portraits of our fallen soliders and surprises their parents with the portrait, all at her own expense.  It was so up-lifting.
Alan and I were so glad that Lory and Tim Curtis came to the reunion.  What a delight to meet them in person and to get an autographed copy of Lory's wonderful book "Letters Home."
We hope you have a safe, fun trip.
    Pat Seitz and Alan Greer

Darrell Egner

May have to stay packed there

Please go back to Mail Call #1579, go to the last one from Merle & Betty Traver and click on the link.  This is a must read.  If this doesn't bring a tear to your eyes nothing will.

I very seldom click on links but something made me pull this one up.  I am sure happy I did.  I don't want to give away the message but all I can say is GOD BLESS this wonderful women.  Thanks Merle & Betty for sharing.

Medal of Honor

PO2 (EOD2) Mike Monsoor, a Navy EOD Technician, was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq, giving his life to save his fellow Seals.

During Mike Monsoor's funeral in San Diego, as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, SEALs were lined up on both sides of the pallbearers route forming a column of two's, with the coffin moving up the center. As Mike's coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his gold Trident from his uniform, slapped it down embedding the Trident in the wooden coffin.

The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time the coffin arrived grave side, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from all the Tridents pinned to it. This was a fitting send-off for a warrior hero.

This should be front-page news instead of the crap we see everyday.

Since the media won't make this news, I choose to make it news by forwarding it onto you guys. I am damn proud of our military. If you are proud too, please pass this on. If not then rest assured that these fine men and women of our military will continue to serve and protect.

Good Morning Ben:

Wanted you and everyone to know what an honor it was to help my sister Chris Lindner with the 517th Reunion.  It was wonderful meeting so many terrific people. Just talking to the men who knew my dad and all the stories were great. Now when I read mail call I have faces with all the names. (almost)

Also wanted to applaud Claire and Helen on their fabulous job with the Thunderbolt and keeping the memories of the 517th going.
