In good old Florida it was in the mid 90's and my grass needed cutting but it would wait.  Instead I just spent a very enjoyable afternoon reading the wonderful 517 Web site thanks to Bob Barrett's hard work.  The scope of our Web site is unbelievable.  How in the world can one man find the time to put all this information together.  I hate to admit it but I never found the time to explore all the information available on the Web to all the 517 Family.  Needless to say I learned a great deal about the 517 that I didn't know.

ALL OF YOU THAT ARE READING THIS MAIL PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO ACCESS THE WEB AND TELL YOUR FAMILY ABOUT THE WONDERFUL INFORMATION THAT IS AVAILABLE.  PROVIDE THEM WITH THE FOLLOWING ADDRESS TO ACCESS THIS TREASURE OF INFORMATION.  WWW.517PRCT.ORG.

In the next Thunderbolt due out in the next few weeks you will find many pictures and stories about our great Reunion in St. Louis thanks to Helen Beddow and Claire Giblin.  A great big thanks to Chris and Bev, Co-Chairs,  for the best reunion yet.  We had 210 people attend the Banquet.  Claire is hard at work on the 2009 National Reunion.  I am guessing she may have some surprises regarding several issues which I will let her tell you about.

I just had to tell you about the Web site.  Now I better get down stair's and ketch up on the Olympic Games.  Ben is due back from California Tuesday.  Please send him E-mails so he doesn't have time to rest after his big trip.

Regards to the entire 517 family,

Mr. Barrett,

Would you mind if I printed out your story you had written on the 517th PIR website and send it to you for an autograph? Unless you already have something printed out that I could purchase.
Have a great day,

My father, William Johnston was assigned to the 676th Medical Holding Company, which was attached to the 517th during the invasion of Southern France. The 676th was the receiving medical unit for battle wound injuries. He had the great honor, not as he described it, of being transported by gliders. He is looking for information of anyone connected with or has any stories to share of the 676th.

Thanks
-Bill Johnston

Subject: LE MUY CELEBRATIONS 2008

Hi Ben & Bob,

I hope that all is OK for you and all your family.

Here many things move a lot !!!....

In Le Muy there is a new mayor.  Madame Liliane BOYER.She really cares about keeping and ameliorating great celebrations in Le MUY, with her new team, and she has some good projects to perpetuate the memories of your action in South of France.I'm working with her staff to organise the célébrations in August from the last 2 months. This year the célébrations will be on 3 days !!.. I join with this mail the scan of the ad.

A Dragoon March on 2 days from Le Muy to Le Muy in the Drop Zones.

Re-enactment of an American Camp.

Spécial celebration at the American  Cimetery in Draguignan.

Big parade with Jeep, Dodge, GMC, Harleys..... with more of one hundred men re-enactors in Parachutists.

I know that you had some pictures of the last year.

Some veterans are already booked.

Peter MATTHEWS; 2° Brigade GB and his family.

Jo CICCHINELLI; 551st PIR.

Dick FIELD; 551 st PIR and his Daughter.

Can you communicate this information to all the members of 517th and families, and if you know if some of them, plan to came in South France in August, thank you to tell me, so I can finalise correctly their reception in France.

I'm in contact with the town of Draguignan too, a good celebration will also be organised this year, but just the 16th August at 18h00 to 20h00.

For more informations don't hesitate to contact me and I'll try to do the best.

Warmest regards.

Very friendly

Eric RENOUX

There is a video (in 2 parts) on YouTube about Operation Dragoon, with actual videos from WWII.

   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhdMuDp-YGI

It has a brief mention of the paratroopers, with video, at minute 8:00.
