We have many articles on the web site concerning 517 members and would like to get more stories, whether by members themselves or by relatives or friends of members. We need present troopers to tell us stories about troopers who are no longer with us or about troopers with whom we have little or no information. Tom Cross promised to sent information about Dave Armstrong. Lou Scaringi mail below is what we want to know about.
We now have on the web site Many historical items about the 517.Click on sites below. - Ben

Ben, I just read Mail Call 1720 that Tom and Wayne Cross are making headway in researching the problems of the 551st PIR trying to keep contact with the 517th PIR at Trois Ponts. This called to mind an action I experienced during that operation for which I received the following citation:
Pat Seitz and Allan Greer
Ben: Happy Valentines Day to all the members of the 517th, their families and many supporters in France and Belgium, with a special valentine of gratitude to you and Bob for all that you do to keep us connected in mind, spirit and email! Please let Ms. Hanron know she has some great ideas. We've delighted in hearing of the 517th members encounters with 10th graders and their recognition of you! Pat Seitz and Alan Greer Steve Markle
Ben,
I was researching another member of the 517 recently (Arthur L Markle) to determine whether he is (distantly) related to our family, and came across the full manifest of the ship Madawaska Victory on August 20, 1945 that carried the majority of the returning members of the 517 from the War in Europe. I see that you have a few pages displayed on the site already, but if anyone is interested in the full list, I have compiled it into a single PDF file with bookmarks.
It includes HQ and HQ CO, HQ 3rd Bat, Companies A, B, G, H, and I, along with the Medical and Service Companies attached.
It would appear that the units that followed a couple of days later on August 22, 1945 on the Oneida Victory were (at a minimum), Companies C, D, E, and F. Maybe Gene Frice or others from these Companies can comment this. I found a listing of the arrival of the Oneida Victory but it did not include the passenger manifest.
Unfortunately there are few pages that have some of the named no longer legible.
If anyone knows information about Arthur, I would love to hear from you. He entered from Detroit Michigan, was wounded during the War (earning a Silver Star) and was a member of Company I.
