Ben, I was looking through my Father's papers last night and came across the attached picture of Col. John Lissner.  Looking at this picture of John, I recalled his funeral where his son gave a most eloquent review of his life. John was an exceptional man.  During the war he lead Co. F of the 2nd Battalion where he was awarded the Silver Star for action at Col de Bras and the Croix de Guerre for action at Draguignan.  He was a Gold Glove boxer, played Football and Baseball for Iona and, as I recall the story, was delivered to the Army Induction Center by two policemen who sported bloody and broken noses!  In many respects John was the heart and soul of the 517th because he embodied the many traits the troopers all shared in common.  I hope John, Mary Ann and Brian still check in on Mail Call as I wanted to share this photograph with them.  -wayne

I had finalized the national reunion a few weeks back and I believe I sent Darrell, and Claire the final outline for the reunion from Armed Forces Reunion.  I don't remember anyone getting back with me about it being approved, but I think Darrell said it looked good.  My question is when will it appear on Mailcall and in the Thunderbolt?  Please let me know.
Thanks
Lory

Dear Gilles:

I made one omission by not adding Joe Calder who was 3rd Bn. S-4 all the way through the war and back home with us.

When I returned to law school there were three of us who made it through college and the war and had gone through ROTC and OCS together.  Almost all of the other students were returning veterans.  It was hard to chain ourselves to the desks after three years or so on the go out doors in the Army.

My best,  HH

My grandfather was Louis Holzworth, a member of the 517th back in WWII.  Ben's emails help me find and get to know one of his sons (my uncle), Mike in California.  He has made a difference with his emails.  I hope he feels better soon!  Our thoughts are with him!

Dear Ben and Bob,

Here is a nice story I thought you could add in the photo section of 517th website.
This picture was taken in l'Escarène (French Maritime Alps) by a 517th trooper.
The beautiful French girl in the picture is Marie-Pauline "Marinette" Arnulf, née Rostagni.
She is the grandmother of our friend Nicolas Arnulf, who is the liaison officer of our 517th association in the Maritime Alps.
"Marinette" was 18 years old and living in L'Escarène when a 517th PRCT trooper took this picture of her in front of his Jeep.
The photo was taken Rue St Sebastien in l'Escarène, Fall 1944.
While later on leave in Nice, the trooper had the picture printed and offered it to Marinette.
Marinette is alive and well and still lives in l'Escarène.

With kind regards,

Gilles
