Hello All,

A quick update on my father, Robert Vaught, of I Co.  He underwent a coronary artery bypass surgery on Friday, April 17.  He was discharged from the hospital on the following Wednesday, April 22, and continues to recover at home.  He is hoping for a fast recovery so we can attend the Salt Lake City reunion.  Hope you are well!

Dear Andy and Bob,

Thanks for your messages.

I was able to identify the German shoulder straps brought back by your grandad.

They are Officers shoulder straps of a "Hilfzollassistent" of the "ReichFinanzVerwaltung" = A Customs officer of the Reich Finance Administration, and they are 100% WW2.

About the "Patches – Not sure what these are.  They were in his shoebox."

These are WW2 US Army paratrooper ovals, they were fixed above the left breast pocket and the jumpwings were pinned on the "oval". On the left is a 517th oval (blue with silver border) - the one on the right might be an 82nd Airborne since your Dad was with the 82nd for occuptaion duty.

Each Airborne unit/regiment had its own oval.

More soon about the pictures.

Kind regards Gilles

Hello

I'm French and I use a translator french / English for you.

Sorry if you have trouble understanding me.
I am passionate about 517th PIR. but especially the 517th Pathfinder.
I am looking for any information on the Pathfinder.
Would you list them, an officer, non-commissioned officer, enlisted.
Are they still alive? If yes, is it possible to get in touch with them?
All information will be useful to me.
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Greetings.

Rick
