Hi, Ben,
Finally got my computer working.   We had a great time in Palm Springs, didn't we?  So glad you were there.   It was really fun, although I got lost in San Francisco on the way back.   Stay well.  See you in Salt Lake.

Dear Ben,   After reading Howard Hensleigh's message of January 29, it occurred to me that perhaps I could find out more about my husband, Annon (Andy) Jorgen.   He was a 1st Lt.   in E-Company.  He died 9 years ago.   We were married for 50 years and all during that time  he would not talk much about his war experiences.    Just once in a great while.  After he died I got a computer and found your website, which has been great.   I found out so much about him through  some of the men.  I did write a book about his war experiences as best I could.   However, maybe I have missed someone else who knew him.   My e-mail address is:   Leilani3@coosnet.com.     By the way, you were a great big help to me, too.    Thanks again.   You are great.  Sincerely, Virginia Jorgen

Hi Ben,

Thomas Finley points out that the photos from Andy Hill, Nos. 18-37 were taken in Nice.  One giveaway that they were purchased photos is the old casino is in the pictures. Its the structure with a dome that is on a pier in the water.  Its no longer there.  When I was in Nice last fall, Frederic Brega told me that the casino was dismantled by the Germans during the war. They used the iron to build fortifications around the city.  So it was gone by the time any GI's got to Nice.

Hello Everyone,

Im in the process of putting together several replica uniforms from my grandfathers photos.  I had a couple of questions.

1.  Did the 517th wear the same jump uniforms as the 509 in the Dragoon Drop in Aug.? Did the whole 1ATF get outfitted the same for that time.

2.  Did you wear the 42 or 43 jump suits?

3.  If it was the 42's you had when you jumped, when did you switch them out for the 43?

4.  Did you have the M1 helmet with the D style straps? Camo Net and First aid kit on the helmet or no?

5.  What jump boots did you wear?

6.  Did you have your normal wools on under the jump uniform and if so which wools did you use during Aug. or 44.

7.  Did just the 517th paint the camo on the jump suits or did everyone.

I hope you can help me out so I can purchase the proper gear.  If you have any tid bits to add that would be great.

Many Thanks

Wesley Perry
