Ben,

I missed meeting up with Cecil by one day in Frederick, Oklahoma and was very disappointed. The painting he saw in the chow hall was painted on the wall of the day room of the 460th by my dad CPL Ben Gomez at Camp Mackall and was "rescued" by my uncle SGT Joe Sanford. After being pulled out of the Tennessee maneuvers they knew that they had to prepare to go overseas and would never be back to Camp Mackall so Joe cut the painting out of the wall and sent it by rail to his parents in Orange, Texas.

On Friday the 24 of July I made my 54th static line jump from a C-47 (one more than my age),but a real treat was to get to go on post at Ft. Sill in Lawton and view the monument to the 460th PAFB for the first time.

AIRBORNE!

Steve Gomez

BEN; Mathew Akers is one of the two young men that I met at the Eckey Village in Pa. a few weeks ago. He could be a member of my squad any time. Best Regards to you

To Joyce Turco,

Hi Joice, Jan and I were very happy to read your letter to Ben. We have thought ot you often and wondered how you were doing. We wanted to attend the reunion but I had a hip replacement and thought it was too soon to make the trip.We still live in Elmira, NY and are doing OK. I have my 85th next week but still travel with the Airstream RV. We gave up our home in Fla. jn 84 and stay here year-around.

Stay well,
Don & Jan Saunders

Dear Mr. Barrett,

I read with great interest your recollections of your time with the 517 (on the web at the Battling Buzzards site).  I'd like to ask if you knew my uncle, Lt. Paul E. Craig.  He was with the 517th in both companies E and H.  I don't know a lot about his service; he landed in Naples, fought up the boot of Italy, received a field commission of 2nd Lieutenant, and was killed at Trois Pont, Belgium in January of 1945.

Did you know my uncle?  If so, could you tell me anything about him, or his service, or even an anecdote or two?

Thanks very much!

Thomas Hertzel
