Remembrance of Capt. Robert P. Woodhull, by Tory Parlin
Hi About those Gliders troopers. If you had seen those guys come in in Southern France like I did, you would have a lot more respect for them. Crashing, bashing, and wrecking like crazy. Not enough room to land, inexperienced pilots and wires and bombs filling the dmz. What a mess. I'll take a chute any time. I think those guys got screwed royally, both in Hazard pay and in respect. There "engagement" casualties had to be much higher than the jumpers. Yes sir, I'll take the chute any time. Oscar H. Knerr 517 Reg Hq. -----
Attached are photos of my great grandfather Leo Balestrini, 460th Battery A.
Sunbury Daily Item 7-20-2005 //SUNBURY - Leo Balestrini, 80, of RR2 Sunbury, passed away at 8:10 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He didn’t talk much about the war, at least not to me. Thank you for maintaining a wealth of information, otherwise I probably would have never known the roll that ‘Pap’ played in the war. Thanks again for providing the opportunity to have a glimpse into the past and learn about my grandfather’s life.
