Wade Gilbert, how do we thank him for all he does for the 517 PRCT.  Simple words will not come close but I will give it a try.  Many of the 517 family doesn't know him personally, and what he has done for the 517.  I had the pleasure of meeting him, also his Dad Ernest from F Company and a Brother and Sister.  What a wonderful family.

For the past two years he has sent us a  check when ever we publish the Thunderbolt which almost covers the cost of sending it out to about 1200 people.  I'm sure you have seen his ad in each issue.  The name of his company is International Audio Visual, Inc. (IAVI).

Very few people know this but I was with him when he asked the Banquet Bartender at the Salt Lake City Reunion to put all our drinks on his hotel tab.  There was 163 of us at the Banquet and you all know how us Paratroopers can drink.

Then he offered to make copies of our movie "A Cut Above" and sent them to all that requested copies.  To the best of my knowledge none of us asked him to take on this tremendous task.

Thanks again Wade for all you do.  A simple thanks isn't much but we don't have enough in our Treasury to cover a new car.

Ben,
Myrle just asked me yesterday if I had heard anything about the movie so he will be thrilled to know that it is on its way.  Please extend our gratitude to Rob McDonald and his crew for the making of this film and to Wade for the processing and mailing.  What great donations these people have given to our boys and their families and we can certainly make a donation to the 517th so that this great organization can continue for our children and grandchildren and generations to come.

Now for Myrle, it looks like the surgery will be scheduled for Friday.  He is eating better, breathing better and even joking with the nurses.  I told the nurse if he gave them any trouble they had my permission to get him straightened out any way they saw fit.  She laughed and said she told him that she was the boss.  I have relayed all messages from the 517th and printed out the Mail Call so that he can read them when he gets home.

Ben,

Please pass our prayers on to Merle Travers.  I met Merle in the hospital when Betty was a pt.  Betty, where is he and who is the cv surgeon?  That's my area of expertise.  These days open heart is done pretty routinely with quick recovery and I believe Merle won't have any trouble at all!!!     After all, he is a paratrooper!!!  Let me know which hospital he is at.  You say Friday is his day?

I got this wonderful Normandy slide show  from my uncle. I have no idea who created it but the title page suggests that it is a person who is Portuguese or Brazilian since it appears to be in Portuguese.  Anyway, I found it very touching. The music is great.

My father would be 85 in two weeks. So I send this thinking of him. And of you who served with him in D Day, the spouses of men who served there, and those who were his contemporaries and served in other capacities  here at home.

And I send it to my German and British  friends—whose families were touched by the war in ways that we cannot imagine.

This slide show, beyond honoring the Brits, Canadians and Americans,  is also a testimony to the German people who have behaved with such great honor in creating a new Europe.

Hit your arrow button when you have viewed the slide—it does not come as a self propelled slide show.  The music is on continuous loop- but you have to operate the slides by moving your arrow button.

Supposedly there is a “Parte 2”  but I regret that I do not have it.  If I get it, I will forward it.

 The pictures are moving—not  gruesome.

Hang in there and you will be better than new in a short time.  I had a 4-way by-pass 10 years ago and my heart now skips a beat when a young chick goes by the window.
