,
I will be making a conscious effort to wish everyone
a Merry Christmas this year ...
My way of saying that I am celebrating
the birth Of Jesus Christ.
So I am asking my email buddies,
if you agree with me,
to please do the same.
And if you'll pass this on to
your email buddies, and so on...
maybe we can prevent one more
American tradition from being lost in the sea of
"Political Correctness".
To one and All...
Jesus is the reason for the season!
Chris LindnerHi Ben,I loved your comment with regard to SUPERMAN!!!!!!!Chris
Lory CurtisBen,Many thanks to Howard Hensleigh concerning Bob Steele and Lt Steele. My question revolves around my Dad being very close friends with Bob Steele. Unbeknownst to both Bob Steele and my Dad they both attend Poly High School in Long Beach California and met for the first time in the 517th. As you stated the 1st and 2nd Battalions were very picky on who they let in. My Dad was personally interviewed by then Major Seitz (now LTG Ret) who told me he interviewed 3,100 men and only let in 700 into 2nd BN. Dad transferred to 1st BN just before going overseas and remained in 1st BN for the remainder of the war. Dad told me one time in France he noticed Bob Steele speaking fluent French. Dad asked Bob where he had learned to speak French and Bob said he had taught himself from a "Learn to Speak French" book in a couple of days. Dad thought, well if Bob can learn to speak French in couple of days he could too. Dad asked to borrow the book and found out it was harder than what Bob had made it appear. From then on Dad always said Bob Steele was a genius. After the war I can remember as a kid going with my parents to Bob Steele's home and playing with his kids as our parents socialized. It was found memories. I remember Bob Steele having a 1957 Thunderbird and riding in it. In later years Dad lost contact with Bob, and had heard he had moved to South America. Unfortunately, Bob Steele has not been heard of since that time. Thanks again for the explanation of the two Steeles in the 517th.
