Hello,
I try to answer all
questions that I receive either in the guestbook or in Mail Call. I do place
them in "Mail Call" so that others who may have more information than I do can
add it to
them.

Hi Ben,
   That poem submitted by
Falbey was a doozy - it was great and amusing and it gave us all a good laugh -
that's what we all need at a time like this - it kind of lifts the spirit to
know that there is something out there that gives us something to laugh at
besides gloom and doom.
I would like to wish all in the
517th family a MERRY CHRISTMAS ans A HAPPY NEW YEAR - GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND THIS
GREAT
COUNTRY.

Joe
Mackiewicz

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: My father was SGt. Robert J. Rock of C company. I am
looking for anyone who can give me some information about his army days. I
attended a reunion with him in the early seventies at Ft. Bragg. I was just a
young boy then. He passed away in 1977 and I would like to find some of his army
buddies. Please contact me if you have any information. Sincerely Ronald J. Rock

Michael Lind seeking information on NEIL
SCHMID.  Trooper  assigned to Regimental Headquarter, Demolition
Platoon was a RICHARD V. SCHMITT.
I believe Neil Schmid was in the 2nd Bn.
Michael Lind should write or telephone Clark Archer at 525 N Halifax Ave, Apt #
6, Daytona, Beach, Fl 32118, Tel. No. 386-258-6033. Good
luck.

I believe we  trashed this out
earlier in the year when the SCHMID grandson was seeking info. He was directed
to me  I provide him with all the information on Schmitt (confusing isn't
it) which was incorrect until we contacted Clark Archer who set the record
straight.
How are you doing for an ole Trooper? Hope all is well with you and
your family. All is well on this end. Keeping in shape as well as I can and
grateful to be allowed  to see the sun rise each
day.

Dear Ben:
Lt. Gen. McNeill is a
great successor to Mat Ridgeway and Dick Seitz.  We knew Mat was good, but
he proved it again in Korea.
May bin Laden soon have a
face to face opportunity for forgiveness.  Or, as suggested by the last
verse of our poem of the day, may he be brought to justice in a place that's a
little warmer than his caves.  Howard Hensleigh

i thought i would write to all of you instead of one at a
time.  dad has alot of friends.
to day he was transferred out of icu and
up to a medical surgical floor.  good thing as he fell last nite in icu
with a nurse standing next to him.  they didn't tell me.  i found out
late today....he got all his tubes out nose, bladder, etc.  he has a drain
left in his belly.  he walked in the hall alll around the unit and was very
short of breath but did ok.  he was exhausted when i left and just wanted
to sleep.  no hallucinations today.  has required no pain meds today
so he was not seeing bugs or ducks....tomorrow he should get to start to eat and
drink.  so it will be a lot of walking....he is doing excellent after what
he went thru......more tomorrow..... and ben, all he wanted to see was his mail
calls he's missed about the
517th....kathy

Hi ---
Husband Curley and I maybe twice
a week, stop off at the little Donut shoppe on the highway --- yesterday, I
stopped in by myself and half of "the group" was there --- these are all widows,
and retired guys.    Anyway, one of the fellas told me last week,
that he loved reading books about history - I told him about "The Battling
Buzzards" - so yesterday, brought him my book.    One of the
fellas at the table looked the book over and I showed him the picture of Seitz -
he said he knew him or OF him.  That he, during the 60's, was in CO. C, in
the 173rd Airborne Brigade.   He was in
Okinawa.     His name is Julian Meadows.   I know
ya'll don't know him, but just wanted you to know that it's still a small
world.
Have great
Holidays.
Love,
Shirley

Hi Ben,
I did appreciate John
Alicki's response.  It's good to know that others remember for two
reasons.  It confirms what really happened  and secondly it confirms
that two old geezers like Boom Boom and me still have brain cells that
function.  And, Boom Boom not only survived the 517 escapades, he survived
Pearl Harbor.

Ben, those of us who shared the ship with WACS
obviously have a few stories, especially if we were lucky enough to have a lady
to share the long days at sea.
Those who did had little time to go to
the ships store to buy gum, candy, etc. So my good friend Roger Bender and I
went into business. With five dollars each we bought about 300 items at three
cents each and strolled the decks selling them for five cents each. This
business continued for about 12 days resulting in a profit of over $100.00 for
each of us. Those young folks sure liked to chew and eat candy or what ever else
we could find to eat. Too bad we couldn't sell blankets because the cool night
air must have been uncomfortable.

Hello Bob.  I am not going to make it down for the
reunion in January.  The Doctor does not want me to do any traveling for a
while until he can find out what my trouble is.  He did tell me that my
heart was enlarged then I have some other problems.  Boy it is hell when
you get old.  I was really looking forward to seeing ever one.  But it
seems like every time I want to go some place I have a problem.
