Bob, I was pleased to see the Currahee Military Museum at Toccoa mentioned in the latest newsletter. A week after I returned from the celebrations in Southern France in 2007, I was able to finally visit Toccoa. The museum was very well curated. I would encourage anyone who finds himself in the North Georgia or western South Carolina area to venture off the interstate and find Toccoa. The Museum in the old train station is worth the trip.
Here are three images from the museum: one is of the exterior of the train station where it is located; the other two are of an exhibit cutaway of troops exiting a C-47. There were two sections of the museum devoted to the 517th.(please let me know if the images don't transmit)

From the same web page, here’s an interesting story about Major Paxton. Anyone know where this story came from? What book? Who’s the “me” who told this story? – Bob B.
In the process a couple of tanks were digging in and one of their sergeants was standing talking to me. Major Paxton walked by and said to the tank sergeant, “Your outfit has a reputation of pulling out and leaving people in the lurch. You don't do that to the 517th, I gave orders to my gunners to shoot you if you try it, we are all staying." Major Paxton then went on his way.
