Mail Call: MailCall@517prct.org

I need to get this MailCall out tonight, even as short as it is, because we need a very quick response from anyone who might be attending Ben’s ceremony in DC.  See the details at the bottom.  If you are coming and also want to take the Whitehouse tour with Paul “Your Tax Money at Work” Barrett, (if we can get in), then you need to answer like today!  Wednesday!  RSVP right now!

Administrivia:

Looks like emails are going through.  I have learned to send it out in several groups, with less than 100 people per group.  There are currently about 350 people on the list.

At any time, if you want to be added or removed from the MailCall list, just let me know.

Donations for any programs involving the 517th should be sent to our treasurer Leo Dean at 14 Stonehenge Lane, Albany NY  12203.

New address for MailCall:  MailCall@517prct.org  I will also continue to search Ben's gmail and AOL accounts for a while as well.

I am on the road without access to my home computer for the rest of the week.  So don’t panic if you don’t see another email until next week.  (Does anyone remember when Ben only sent emails about once a week?)

Keep sending news.

MailCall news:

Wow, the mail calls you have created are really great!  Really appreciated all of the pictures too.  The one of Fran and Ben was particularly meaningful.  Thank you so much for all of your time and effort.

Hi Bob,
I received this mail and all the pictures. How young and beautiful were your parents.
Seeing the pictures of the Villa brought memories of Leo's stories about it. You are doing a great job of keeping up the mail.

Thanks, Joyce Turco

How much time do I have?

In the US Army Airborne School, which trains parachute jumpers for the Army, one of the Sergeants was demonstrating all of the possible failures that could happen to the equipment.  In particular, he was explaining how many things could happen to keep the main parachute from opening.  When one of the trainees asked, "If my parachute fails to open, how long do I have to open my reserve chute?"

"Son, you have the REST of your life to deploy that reserve!", the sergeant drawled.

We meet at the Arlington Cemetery Administration Bldg (behind the Visitor's Center) by 1:30pm. All must be in cars and our group will be escorted to the burial site by a cemetery representative. Following the service, a reception will be held at the Woman's War Memorial Building on site at the cemetery at 3:15pm.

For those needing hotel rooms we were able to secure group rates at the Holiday Inn in Arlington, VA. There 20 rooms available, 15 with 1 king bed and 5 with 2 double beds.  Wednesday, April 28 the room rate is $179 a night and for Thurs and Friday the rate is $99 a night.  When making reservations, use the group code BMG (Barrett Memorial Group).  After March 31, they release the rooms to the general public.  [PS:  If you go to the Holiday Inn website and sign up to be a PriorityOne member, rumor has it that you get a free breakfast buffet in the morning. – BB]

Also, here is an email from Paul Barrett:

I've had a few inquiries about the possibility of a White House tour.  As I mentioned, they usually schedule these things six months out so the possibility we'll get one is not great.  However, if they don't get us into the White House, they can usually get us a tour of the Capital as a consolation prize.  Nevertheless I will need the following information from ANYONE that wishes to participate No Later Than Midnight Wednesday, March 17!!!

Last name
First Name
Full Middle Name
Gender
Date of Birth
Social Security Number
US Citizen (Y or N)
Passport Number for Non-US Citizens
Birth Country
Birth City and State
Current City and State of Residence

Right now group size is not an issue.  However I must submit everything at once and I don't know who is coming or have their email addresses so please contact anyone you think may wish to go on the tour and either forward me their information or have them send it to me directly at pbarrett@alumni.bates.edu.  Keep in mind that due to security clearance issues we will not be able to add anyone at the last minute.

Paul
