In case you were confused by the last MailCall, my computer clock was wrong.  It appears that I sent it on March 19, but I really sent it late on Saturday March 20.  So it didn’t really take 2 days to get to you.

At any time, if you want to be added or removed from the MailCall list, just let me know.

Donations for any programs involving the 517th should be sent to our treasurer Leo Dean at 14 Stonehenge Lane, Albany NY  12203.

New address for MailCall:  MailCall@517prct.org  I will also continue to search Ben's gmail and AOL accounts for a while as well.

Keep sending news.

MailCall News

Bob, we know that Ben kept the 517th family in touch with the MailCall, and we all know that sometimes change is hard to come by when new folks step into big shoes, but I must say, you're doing a heckofa job retouching the MailCall!  It looks great!  Thanks again for taking on this task!

-Your friends on CAJT, the jump team!

Bob, I agree with Pat and Alan your Mail Calls are outstanding.  All good wishes to your wonderful family.

Dear Bob,

Good to hear from Tom Weil from the 3rd Bn. S-2 section.  Hang in there, Tom.  George (Red) Meline, the other living member of the section, his son, an engineer, and grandson, a medical doctor, were here for a good old 517 visit yesterday afternoon.  We went through my scrap books and Red undertook to send you the pictures of "Scrappy" Stewart taken around Joigny after the fighting in Europe was over.  Scrappy's sons were interested and I hope are still watching for them.  There may some other things of interest on the pages Red took that he will send along also.

Highest 517th regards,

Howard Hensleigh

RE:  video of Company A in Italy

Hello Bob,

I noticed the one you put on the website doesn’t work (at least on my computer) here is the link to the upgraded video in slow motion directly from YouTube.  It’s better than the other one.

Hint # 1:  This former 517th Battling Buzzard had a younger brother who became a famous Hollywood actor.

Hint # 2:  Both he and his brother are Texans by birth.

Hint # 3: This enlisted man was a former trooper and Purple Heart recipient.

Hint # 4:  Although he was a sergeant, he was known to visit the local Officers Club with his friend Lt. John Lissner, dressed as an officer.

Who was this Battling Buzzard?

Man of the Year

The Static Line's Airborne Award Program is to be held in Atlanta, April 7-10, 2010.  The 517th will be represented by Past President Darrell Egner who will receive an award as the 517th's Man of the Year.

We’re still waiting for more entries for the Meet the Troopers section of the Web site.  There were 2500 soldiers in the 517th, and we only have 63 bios on the site!   It is an important part of the 517th history.  There’s no time like the present to make a few notes about your life.  Start simple.  You can always add more info and more photos later.   Where is Leo Dean?  Gene Frice?  Lud Gibbons?  Families and friends, please get after your troopers to get their story in.  Just get a few words down.

Material submitted is completely up to the soldier, or to their family and relatives.  Take a look at the biographies already submitted -- Jesse Darden's bio is a great example.  So is Merle’s -- if he would send me some better pictures.   http://www.517prct.org/bios/merle_mcmorrow/merle_mcmorrow.htm

But feel free to be as creative as you like.  It's your story.  This information can be as long or as short as you like.  We would like to see any or all of the following items:

¨      photos - then and now

¨      memories from 517th training and WWII

¨      biography - before and after the 517th

¨      comments, philosophy, opinions

¨      anything you want to say to your friends and relatives
