Ben, I just heard from June Huffman that Jane Mars, wife of Chop Chop,
Medic 2nd Battalion died about a month ago.  I do not have any of the
details.  Both Jane and Chop Chop have made every one of the 517ths
reunions and were always a joy to be with.  With continued respect and
thanks for all you are doing for the alumni of the best combat unit in
the world.  517 all the way.  Dick

Got it just fine. My favorite is the soldier getting ready to shoot his wounded Jeep. I'll try and find it for scanning.

Really enjoy your Mail Call, even with the tears.

Howdy Ben,      Bill Mauldin's favorite cartoon was
the one on the cover of the book "Bill Mauldin's Army"
but one of my favorites is the one on page 314 of said
book.  Shows an MP, a rear-echelon G.I., a trooper
with those old G.I. shoes,  a Colonel and a Lt. all of
whom are wearing jump-boots.  The caption has the col.
telling the Lt. that "Its best not to speak to
paratroopers about saluting. They always ask where you
got your combat boots."

I had that cartoon as a download in last Mail Call. I will send it again later.

Subj: SPIRIT OF AMERICA-Special Notice
Date: 8/31/2002 8:09:31 PM Eastern Daylight Time
From: BoomBoomAlicki
To: Ben517

On Saturday 28 September 2002, the United States Army will host a Korean War Service Medical Ceremony during the award winning Spirit of America production at the MCI Center, Washington, DC.

Every year, the Military District of Washington's Old Guard and the Army Band, the Army's premiere ceremonial units host the Spirit of America.  This world-class production takes a look at the history of our nation as seen through the eyes of the American soldier.  Over the years, the Spirit of America program has successfully entertained and educated the American public about the price for freedom in a fast-paced, action-packed show with musical and live-action performances to entertain young and old alike.

This year, the Spirit of America will focus on the Army values: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage.  These values are timeless and reflect the values held dearly by American Korean War veterans, as well as our soldiers today.

You are invited to this commemorative event.  For information call toll free 1-866-239-4925 or visit the MDW Website at www.mdw.army.mil.

Mail can be sent to dendando@webtv.net Daniels wife, and I Dennis the
youngest of 7 kids will receive the mail. My father was a great man, and
when you drive through Detroit MI. you will see not one building that he
hasn't touched as a cement finisher. He was the most sought after of all
for his skills, and architecture. He will be missed, but never
forgotten.
