Hello,

Tom Cross enjoined all to use the services and knowledge of Clark Archer to secure accurate information concerning the history of the 517. I send via smail  all "Mail Calls" to Clark and confer with him via phone nearly every week. He is he final authority on matters pertaining to the 517th. Unfortunately Clark does not have a computer or else this would be his job.

Hello Friends:
Some of you know that I have been trying to send pictures of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I am not well informed on such actions, so a friend and I may make it work. I had to leave home so I asked my friend to send a copy of this picture to me before the new edition of the paper was printed. This just might work. Other pictures that I wanted to send have already been deleted from the newspaper. So lets give this one a try. If you aren't too bored already you might want to let me know if you got the picture.

Ben, reference Tom Cross outstanding comments concerning Houstons
article on 2nd Battalions furloughs. Yes I am mad and disappointed
that such an untrue comment would be published in our Thunderbolt.  Like
Tom Cross I talked to various 517th men concerning Houstons story and
based on these talks and own knowledge of the battalion find the story
blantly false.  I don't know the source of Houstons remarks or his
motivaton, but I  do know his remarks are an insult to the fine
paratroopers of the 517th and the 2nd  Battalion.  To you Ben continued
great personal respect and thanks for the truly great job you do for all
of us.  Dick Seitz.

Dear Mr. Barrett,

Thank you sir for your prompt response.  I visited with my grandmother this past weekend; she recalls that he had been awarded a Silver or perhaps Bronze Star, and I seem to recall having seen a Purple Heart when I was younger.  I look forward to learning any information I can.

Sincerely,
Michelle R. Lyon

35 years ago this November three members of the 173d Airborne Brigade were involved in actions for which they later received the Congressional Medal of Honor. PFC John Barnes, Chaplain (MAJ) Charles Watters and PFC Carlos Lozada were all killed in action in November 1967 performing above and beyond the call of duty.
