Comments: I wrote back in June about Private Robert A. Harp. He was my great uncle in the HQ Co. of the 2nd Battalion. The story I was told by my grandmother was that he was in a half-track when a German mortar shell overturned or directly hit the vehicle. He was the only one killed in the vehicle according to the story. It happened on January 21 or 22. I'm not sure. If this sounds familiar to anyone, please let me know. God bless you all and your families this Thanksgiving.

Hello Mr. Barret,
I am writing you this on behalf of my wife. We are trying to track
down military information on her father Alfred Audette. According to
his Separation Report we know he was discharged from the Army in July of
'46, as a member of the 13th Airborne Infantry. We also know he was in
the European theatre from Feb '45 until Aug '46. In trying to fill out
his geneological information we would like to know where he served, if
anyone is around that remembers him, etc. We are uncertain that he was
with your regiment, but figured what the heck, maybe someone there would
know of him... I know he'd been to a few reunions in the Syracuse NY
area in the '80's. Unfortunately he passed away in 1988 from cancer.
Hopefully you can help us out, if not I would like to take the
opportunity to thank you, all the members of the 517th here and gone,
for the wonderful gift of freedom that we all now enjoy.
Sincerely,
Roy Lindlau

My father was in the 517 during WWII. His names was Sgt. Allen Douglas. I
have recently found some of his writings about times in France. I am trying
to find some background.

I'm checking on my father-in-law. ;-) Anyway, we are pretty sure he was
a combative in the European theatre, but the histories of the 13th
Airborne say they never saw combat. (Got there, were supplied, but never
deployed). We do appreciate any help you might provide. We do
appreciate your help. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Barefoot Beggar in the Park
"I love the way President Bush mispronounces the Iraqi dictator's name:
SAH-dum, not sah-DAM. Whereas the latter pronunciation in Arabic means 'One
Who Confronts,' the former means 'Barefoot Beggar.' Be assured that when Mr.
Bush says SAH-dum in his speeches broadcast to the Arabic world, he is doing
it on purpose."
