Hi Ben,
Would there be a problem in copying one of the pictures that was on the 12-16 email from you.  The one of the soldiers marching in the snow, I would love to put in the book I'm writing about Nacho.
Does someone have a copyright to the pictures?
Thanks,
Nila

Thank you so much for the information.

Also, the cancer finally took Nacho.  He died last night and will be buried in New Mexico.

Ben: My Hqts unit landed just short of Le Muy. We determined that we
were about two miles from our intended DZ. We skirted the town on the
north and marched to the DZ in the AM, picking up Col Graves and others
on the way . our 1st Plat, 596th Engrs, under Lt Raymond Hild, landed
with, and supported the 509 PIBn; our 3rd PLat, under Lt Zavattero,
landed with and supported our 3rd BN, 517th. I will have to reread the
ODYSSEY to find out what our 2nd Plat, under Lt Dillard, was assigned as
objective. The gentleman asking about DRAGOON should have or get a copy
of our ODYSSEY, and he should also be informed of The A/B Museum at Le
Muy. Regards, Bob.

Ben,

Please add me to the Mail Call list. My Father was Major Paul D. Vella,
Regimental Surgeon. He passed away on 28 December 1954. I have very little
information on his service and would like to find about as much as I can.

Thank you very much.

Subj: Need a Cap
Date: 1/12/2003 1:14:25 PM Eastern Standard Time
From: wmj.camp@wpmlegal.com
To: Ben517@aol.com

My wife and I are looking for a baseball type cap with the 517th Unit
Emblem (Battling Buzzards) on it for her father, Donald Boatright.  I
was able to obtain the sew-on emblem from Battlezone, but it is too
large for a ball cap.  My wife believed she saw several vendors at last
years reunion in Florida, but she did not have any information on how to
contact them.  I thought you might know of someone who could help us.
If someone out there has several and would like to sell a few to me, I
will prepay and cover shipping if you will put me in touch with them.

I also was wondering if either the 517th or G Company had a Battle Cry
(other than "duck"!) or greeting among its members.  I was thinking of
having a bench or monument made for my father-in-law that would have his
unit emblem, his period of service in WWII, and his decorations on it.
If there is a battle cry or unit greeting, I would like to add that as
well.

Thanks in advance for your help.  We appreciate any help you can
provide us.

John Camp

Hi Mike;   Were some of us there??? I landed near Seillans France,  broke
my back in 5 places on the drop??? Taken in  by the French underground
for 6 days before a German dump truck was stolen and we were taken via
the truck to the Beach head landing and the American hospital. My picture
and my wifes picture was (is) on display in the LeMuy museum??/ We have
visited the museum twice and participated in the Aug.15 celebration of
the invasion of France by the Allied forces . ( Seillans is about 20-25
miles on further inland than LeMuy) I  know the caretakers of the Museum
very well?? (Mike & Erick)  Tom McAvoy at   (artann3447@juno.com)

Der Ben:  I'm still alive and Jan has been home for several weeks doing better every day.  The computer is even in good health.  I had to have a young man take it to his home where he virtually gave me a new grip on the hard drive.  Although I had virus protection, somehow it became infected and got worse for months.  I hope to comment on le Muy later because we should be represented there.  Our thanks to Cotton for representing us.  I was finding the way to le Muy and la Motte from Callian with our president Al Goodman.  When I asked on that dark morning where those two towns were  and where we were, my French friends replied, "You are not on that map".  Did any one in the 517th hit the drop zone?  Not the 3rd Bn. and those engineers with us.  Thanks again for the fine work you and Bob are doing for those of us who have survived.    Howard Hensleigh

Subj: Bill Mauldin

From: chrislindner@bellsouth.net

Hi Ben: I was watching CNN with Aaron Brown tonight and they had a story on Bill Mauldin with his cartoon characters he used during WWII.  Had it not been for your web-site I would not have known who Bill Mauldin was.  They showed him in his care facility with his son and his son was reading him some of the letters they are receiving from WWII Veterans.  Mr. Mauldin’s son said they were overwhelmed with the amount of letters from WWII Veterans that they have received thanking Bill for his cartoon characters and humor during WWII. I just thought it was a nice report and was wondering if you are anyone else had seen it. Have a good day. Chris Lindner Nate Rubenstein’s daughter
