Hi, I am Boyd Ellis, brother of Taskel (PAPPY) Ellis F SQ. 2ND Battalion. He was cadre at  Camp Toccoa(?) Ga., went to Italy, Southern France and the Bulge.  I did not see my name on the list as a family member. My brother passed away 2 years ago. in San Diego Ca.  PS I have been getting the mail list right along. My brother never said much about his service time but in the past few years before he passed away, he did tell me quite a few stories about his days as a trooper.
Some funny, some tragic. I asked him about LT. Cross and the shell going thru the house and he said he remembered that, He was standing outside with some other fellows when it hit. He said. "KT, Cross was well liked by everyone and as outstanding individual but not very lucky, he  had just recently returned to the Battalion, and he got it again.   I would like to tell you and your son that you are doing a wonderful service to more people then you will ever know. You are right when you talk about history. True history is written by those who were there. All other history is slanted by the writer no matter how hard the honest ones try not to. I wont even talk about the dishonest ones. Keep trying to get the sole survivors to tell it like it was. Otherwise their descendents will not know the truth and will always wonder.  Thanks again for all you two are doing Tell all of the remaining veterans to walk with their head held high, they are all heroes and should be very proud of of who they were and what they did. Sorry about the ramble  Boyd Ellis

Comments: Wednesday 26th of February one of your own passed away. My Uncle by marriage but non the less a loved one. Leonard "Shorty" Dozier of Euless, Texas. "Shorty" served with the 517 Paratroopers in France and Germany in 1944. I thought some would remember him and would like to know. He was a good man as the majority of W.W.II veterans are. You gentlemen are of a different breed from those of today. Good luck to all of you AIRBORNE!

Comments: My name is Jim Byrkit. I am trying to obtain information on Pfc. Dick Daley, a boyhood friend of mine. Dick was a member of "B" Battery, 460th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion, and was killed in southern France during or after the drop on the French Riviera of August 15, 1944. For many years his friends and relatives in Arizona have wondered about the details of Dick's death. We hope this website can help us.If anyone can provide these details, please contact me at my e-mail address. It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi again, Victor Quarante #19 188 041 pfc. was separated on 26 Sept. 1945 He was in Company  A or B second squad in the 517th. My office is upstairs and he has a hard time getting up them right now as he had a rough time with his arthritis. He would love to get the newsletter. Any information that he can get on his old unit would be appreciated. I pulled quite a bit of info. off the net last night and he was very happy to be reading about the days in Europe.

Thanks again,

Len Kneale

Dear Ben, We want you to know that not all French
people are ungrateful. Thanks for all that you do.

A letter from a French citizen to the President of the United States

February 12, 2003

Mr. President,

As citizens of France, we would like you to know that we disapprove  wholeheartedly of the awful decision taken by our government towards the  position of the United States of America as they face the dangers of  Islamic Iraq.
We deplore the mounting hostility of the American people towards the  French, who have never forgotten their debt of gratitude for the great  democracy that provided help in war and peace.
In 2003, a free man has two fatherlands: his own and that of the United  States of America. As in the past, it continues to act as a shield  against barbaric aggression that would plunge humanity into another  medieval age.
As it stands now, we want you and your fellow Americans to know that  you have numerous friends in France at your side who are praying for  your victory at arms.
    "Eisenhower, here we are!"

Ben,

I have 3 emails this morning from scam artists from foreign countries proclaiming to have access to several million dollars and requesting my help in claming this money. The emails are addressed to Gloria Mitchell Schinkal. The ONLY place I use this name is on "our" mail call list! PLEASE warn all  our 517 family not to respond to these people! I  have forwarded these emails to the Attorney General. I don't know if they will do anything to track them or not. Trash like this will use any outlet to try to find suckers. They need to know that the 517 family is smarter than the average "Joe"

Not sure about a 517 member being smarter than the average "Joe". They jumped out of good airplanes.
