Dear Ben, This is Judy Sinnings, daughter of Harry Saunders. Dad wanted me to let you know he is in the hospital. They ran a stress test yesterday in preraration for lung surgery and found a blockage. When they took him in for that they found a blockage to his kidney! That was all taken care of today, so he'll rest for a couple of days then they'll do the lung operation. The doctor said they would remove 1/3 of his lung. If it's maligant or not we don't know yet. Please keep him in your prayers.Dad says he'll be at the Oklahoma reunion, he can't wait! God Bless to you all.

Ben -

I visited your site today and enjoyed perusing the various links.

I noticed that on your individual decorations page you have the captions reversed for the Legion of Merit and The Croix de Guerre.  Figured you would like to know that.

Also - I am deep into development for a very large website featuring the 508th PIR, a parachutist unit of the same era as the 517th.  An initial prototype is already live (see my home base link below) but I have now submitted an order  for the domain name of www.508pir.org and that should be made available to me within the next day or so.  When it is open I will upload my site and announce it as live.

I have already plugged in a link to your site but would like to ask a favor of you.

May I post on my site, with credit to you, the photos that are in the 1943 training manual?  As you stated, they are generic and meaningful to anyone that graduated from Benning's jump school.  I noted that these photos are labeled as "50pct" implying reduction of the original scam.  If you are willing to supply me with the original full size shots I would be very grateful.  Again, all photos would be credited to you.

Thanks!

Dick

Ben,
My unit has received orders to deploy to the Central Command area, so , as much as I would have enjoyed it, I'll be gone for the upcoming reunion.  After reading about the hard work and hours of attention needed to keep mail call and the website functioning, I would like to say thank you again to you and everyone involved.

Brett is a Navy physician and son of Tom an ex Marine. The 517th had the pleasure of meeting them both at the recent Kissimmee rmini reunion. We have a story in the Photos section on our website by Brett about his grandfather Burton Stadler who was  in the 517-Hq.Co. 2nd Bn.

Ben, I’m trying to find out if any of your readers remember a comrade by the name of Lester Dalrymple from Indiana.  He’s my grandfather.  I’m trying to find out more info. On his service in the 517th.  He doesn’t remember much now, and I’d like to get information before its too late.  If anyone knows or remembers him, please email me. Thanks. Mr. R. Storm,

Here is John Bramswing's request.Perhaps someone who was in A Co. can help.-Ben

Hello Mr Boyle,

My father in law Ed Marconi Comp A (deceased) was wounded Feb 6-8 near or abouts Schmidt ( I think??).  Ed always talked about the action as being at night.  He said the troop was walking slowly forward in the dark when all hell broke loose.  He said there was no heads or tails about it and it was a mess.  His comment to me was that he thought the Germans were waiting and his group was used to "expose the enemy".  He took shrapnel in the leg and in the 1960's had another operation to remove more of it.  The govt' reduced his monthly stipend by 10 dollars and he said "Those sons a bitches, I should have left it in"!

Can anyone remember that night and give me any, any story about it.  All I have in my mind is what I can remember him telling me and it seems like an unfinished book.  Can any trooper of 1st Battalion or Co A, or anybody remember??

Regards and all the best,

John Bramswig
