Hello,
Receiving some notices of cancelations to the reunion mostly due to health problems and therefore it is important to come to this reunion if at all possible. It may be your last chance to hookup.

Dear Ben,

Thank you for your kind message. We are really sorry to miss the 517th reunion because our grand son Florent will make his Holy Communion at the same time and we have to be with the family for this special event. Maria is OK but she is afraid to fly a so long trip as her back is very painful. Of course, we are looking forward meeting you when you will come with the Static Line group. I could read on the programm that you'll be here on may 30/31 and june 1st. Certainly, our Committee will prepare some ceremonies or receptions for this special visit. In 2005, we hope to attend the reunion, except if it will take place around may 15. (This date is reserved for the Holy Communion of our grand son Quentin !) Thank you because you are thinking of us. We shall have a special thought for you and your friends veterans to morrow (May 8) as we shall attend the ceremonies in Trois-Ponts, Wanne, Stavelot, la gleize, Stoumont... + on May 24th, Henri-Chapelle, May 26th, Bastogne. Please, accept our great respect and gratitude. We shall never forget your sacrifice and all the young men who died for our Liberty. Hello to all of you, to our dear friends US veterans and to their wives who are always so nice with us. Have a wonderful time in Oklohoma City.
. Love.
Arnold and Irma.

Subj: Veterans' Interviews at OK City Reunion

Lou and Ben,

I would appreciate it greatly if you could help spread the word about the
Camp Toccoa Veterans History Project with the veterans attending the
reunion.  As you know, I will be attending the reunion in person as a
representative of the Toccoa-Stephens County Historical Museum and will be
available throughout the week to conduct interviews.  I hope the veterans
will take this opportunity to share their remembrances of their training
days at Toccoa and their experiences in the ETO.  I will also conduct
interviews with veterans who did not train at Toccoa;  I believe its
important that their accounts are captured for future historical
preservation as well.

I also ask that the veterans bring photographs they have from that period as
the Historical Museum would like to have a pictorial archive, in addtion an
oral history archive, of the 517th veterans.  I can make copies of their
photographs using a digital scanner I will have with me at the hotel.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

1.  The last entry in the guestbook is asking for info on how to get service records.  At the bottom of the table of contents page, there is a link to the Natal Archives site, which has lots of ways to get records.  You have to look around a bit, but you can submit requests online, and it has some info on alternatives to records destroyed in the fire.

Comments: I do have a 42 page document that was sent to my mother shortly after my father, Paul C. Metzger passed away. The document is titled: A Record of Company "C", 517th Parachute Infantry, In the War Against Germany. If anyone would like a copy, please send me your mailing address and I will send to you. This is a great website. Thanks to all!!!!

James,

Yes, I would very much like to have a copy of this Company C document.  I have never heard mention of this document, so I would like a copy.  If the text is cleanly readable, I would like to see if I can add it to the 517th web page, with your permission.  Anything you can tell me about the author and the timing is also useful information.

If you have a hard copy and don't mind making a copy of it, please send to:

Sruggled with this decision since returning from the West Coast Mini a
month ago. Garnet managed to hang-in-there and handled that trip pretty
well. However, we believe the O/C Week would be too much for her to
enjoy it. So we have decided that we will have to cancel our
reservations. Darn! We considered that I might come alone, but I finally
had to veto that option .I just can't be away that long and feel
comfortable leaving Garnet here alone. We do regret having being forced
into this action. We will surely miss all the fun (new renditions of
fine, old tales!), but mostly, seeing our fellow troopers whom we have
not  seen for two years or longer." The spirit is willing, but the flesh
is weak ". Have a great time. Faithfully, Bob and Garnet Dalrymple .
