Hello,
We had a reminder in last Mail Call  about Brian Behren's  request for interviews with members and in this Mail Call we have mail from Kelly Edwards about her desire to record history of World War 11. Not enough people are concerned about that part of our history today. Please be prepared to  help her .

Subj: Tinker Tour
Date: 5/28/2003 12:14:50 AM Eastern Daylight Time
From: louettad2001@yahoo.com
Ben, I would like this to go out on Mail-Call.  The
Tinker Air Base people are limiting the number of
people that we can have go on the Tour of Tinker.  At
first they said we could have no more than 55 total. We
have had 137 sign up for this tour.  I have tried to
think of the most fair way of doing this.  Tinker did
finally agree to letting us bring 55 in the AM and 55
in the PM.  The 2 groups would meet & have lunch
together.  The AM group would then return to the hotel
& the PM group would tour and return to the hotel by
3:00 PM.  What I am going to do is limit the Tour to
men only. I also considered taking the people
(couples) that registered 1st (Jesse & I have kept
tract of the dates that we received each
registration).  But that would leave out a lot of men.
At this time we have 78 men signed up for this tour.
We will take 40 in the AM & 40 in the PM. Meaning that
we have room for 2 more men.  We can take up to 55 in
each group so if more men want to go they may sign up.
This decision can be changed if any one can come up
with another idea. Thank goodness nothing is set in
stone, except the number that Tinker will allow.  I
talked with the Tour People that we are contracted
with about setting up something for the women.  But
that would mean hiring more buses.  I have never hired
buses before & had no idea how expensive they are.
Any way.  I am thinking about doing a brunch at the
hotel for the women or if the majority of them prefer
we can just refund their money.  A brunch would not
cost anywhere near what the Tinker trip cost so they
would still receive a partial refund.  I would love to
have some input for the people out there if they have
any ideas of something they would like to do.  Even if
they don't want to do anything.  Please give me your
ideas.  Thanks for your help.  Looking forward to
seeing everyone in OKC next week.  LOU

I am looking forward to the reunion and looking forward to recording memories for future use in my classes.  I am taking a course on World War II this summer.  The textbook devotes 4 paragraphs to the invasion of Southern France (high school textbooks don’t mention it at all).  I will also be bringing printouts of Mike Kane’s pictures.  Hopefully, the members of D Co. will have some time to get together and see if we can’t get some of them identified. Kelly Edwards (daughter of Mel Edwards)

Hi Lou & Jesse, We are so sorry we can't come to the reunion this year!!
Matt has been having some heart problems this fall & spring & we think he
should stay near his Cardiolgist. We feel really bad that we can't see all
our new friends in the 517th but maybe another year we can see you. I will
miss seeing you Lou!! Delores & Matt Greene.

Mon 2nd 83-63 gust to 30
Tues 81-61 windy 25
Wed 78-55 slight breeze 7 miles per hr. gusts 17-23
Thur 76-51  16 miles per hr.

Some chances of Thunderstorms.  This could be any

There is a shuttle from the hotel to pick you up at
the air port.  There is a direct phone line to the
hotel.  Anyone can help you find it.  I was told there
is a board in the luggage pickup area where you punch
the button for the Biltmore & it connects to the phone
at the hotel & you ask them to come get you.  Hope
this helps.  LOU

Subj: Reunion and web site

Dad,

It sounds like everyone is OK to spend the money on both the projector for my Thursday presentation, and also for the PC to be set up in the hospitality room.  Therefore, I will go ahead and confirm the order today.

The PC will arrive on Monday, and Tom Darden will help set it up.  I just sent a CD to him today which he can try out in advance.  This PC will be located in the hospitality room and will be available for anyone to use to look at the web site.  Me. you, and Tom can help people if there are any questions or they want a "personal tour".

I will arrive Wednesday night and check in with Tom Darden on Thursday AM.  My understanding is that Thursday at 2:00 PM, the hotel has set up a room to hold 40-50 people.  The room can be expanded for up to 90 people, if needed.  The PC rental company will deliver the projector and screen on Thursday AM.

At this session, I will lead a demo of the web site.  This will just be a walkthrough of the web site and its features, a little discussion of the history and future plans for the website, and answering any and all questions.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Bob
