Tom,

A slight change in plans for the PC and projector:

I just had a conversation with Wade Gilbert (son of Ernie Gilbert, F Co.).  Wade owns a company that sells and distributes PC projectors.  He is already planning to attend the reunion with his Dad, so he will be bringing a projector and his laptop at no cost.  This will save us over $450!   Wade is also bringing a scanner, in case anyone has photos that they would like to share with the group (and for the web site).

Wade is arriving on Saturday and staying until Thursday night.  He will check in at the Hospitality Room on Monday, so that you can help him set up the web site onto his PC.  I will arrive Wednesday night, and I am bringing my own laptop, so that will also be available for Thursday and Friday.

Tom,  I sent you a copy of the website on a CD yesterday, which should arrive soon for you to test.  (If you do not get it by Friday, let me know and I can FedEx a copy or we can work out a download).  This local copy of the website can be run right from the CD, or copied onto the hard drive.  Either way is fast enough for demos.

I will check in with you both on Thursday morning, and make sure that we are all set for the presentation which takes place at 2-3 PM on Thursday.   Depending on the room and the hotel setup, I may just have to rent a screen for the afternoon.

For the record many of my photos and negatives of the 517th Prct Battling Buzzards  shown in the 13th Abn Div. History Book were loaned to the G3 for the compilation of the history and never returned to me or even given any credit.

Ben

From the 1st of June 2003 to the 10th of September 2003, I shall not have my computer with me or have access to it, or the internet. In June, I'll be in Olkahoma City and Europe; and during July, August, and 1st part of September, I shall be at my Lodge on Upper Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. Please stop sending any E Mail to me until the 2nd week in September. Many thanks for all the "E Mails" you send me, and I look forward to receiving them again in the Fall.

I wish you a delightful, fun filled, interesting summer.

Good morning, Ben -

Dad (Allan Johnson 596) left yesterday on his drive from New Jersey to
Oklahoma City.  He made it to Virginia last night and will be reporting his
progress daily (I told him that it makes me look responsible if I know where
my father is).  He is so looking forward to seeing you all, and as I read Mail
Call this week, with all the plans for the reunion, I can't help but feel a
bit sad that I can't make it.

Have a great time and enjoy!  Lou and Jesse have worked so hard for so long,
and I know it's going to be wonderful!  My best to your better half, as always.

Ben
Even though Marie and I will not be able to be at the OK reunion this year. I would like to make a suggestion for consideration on the location of the next reunion.  I think St. Louis would be a good place.  We have never been there, to my knowledge.  It is located in the center of the country which would draw people from both the West and East coasts.
St. Louis is a beautiful city and it has lots to do.  There is the world famous "Arch" that one can ride on giving a spectacular view of the Mississippi and St Louis it self.  There are arboretums, and even the famous Budweiser stable and horses.  Shopping is great.  They have some of the greatest shopping malls to please most anyone. They have their own baseball team etc.  There is so much to choose from, even a gambling boat. St. Louis is loaded with History.  They have many hotels and many places to eat, and many convention centers.  Check it out- I think you will agree.
Walt and Marie--best wishes for a great reunion.

I wish you fellas and your ladies a fantastic time at the OC reunion.  My father in law Ed Marconi, Co A from Brooklyn passed four years ago.  I only found you guys three years ago - he would have loved all the information that I have picked up on this web site and email group.  Probably would have drove cross country (as he always talked about an RV drive) to see ya again.  I am gung-ho 100% about you WWII GI's - nothing was bigger (estimated 65 Million dead ) and everything can trace its roots back to "The Big One" - all of our medicine, technology and even uggggg!!!!....Womens Lib!  Do you know there were 15 Million teeth pulled by the Army in WWII?  The statistics are mind bending.

My father was combat S. Sgt 134 days on the line in Bulge, Rhine & Moieselle crossings to the Czech border with 87th Div - got out without a scratch & is still with us today - he always says he is the "luckiest man alive"...................I say you all are!

Ben, can you please send everyone an email and ask them to bring as many pictures as they can.  I’ll have a scanner with me at the reunion and I would like to scan as many pictures as I can and I will also put these pictures on a CD for them so they can preserve the picture forever.  I will also put pictures on a DVD and mail them out to everyone a few weeks after the reunion. Regards, Wade Gilbert

   Hello Ben
Thanks for mentioning Pop on my e-mail.
The only other fact concerning him that I can think of would be that he was in
Intell. I have a commendation letter signed by Dearing that he received upon
completion of regimental combat intell. school. After his release from the hosp.
in late March 45 he was assigned to F CO.
   Regards
