Hi Ben: As I read each Mail Call you send I can feel the excitement that everyone feels for the reunion next week.  I just wanted to tell you that I can’t wait to come and I will be bringing my 17 year old son.  My son has no idea what to expect when we get to Oklahoma.  He is sometimes shy but after meeting all of you and so many of the people I have been in contact with I know that he will have a new appreciate for his Grandfather that he was never able to know (his Grandfather died long before he was born).   When I went to the first mini-reunion in Florida I was welcomed by the 517th family which is a truly unique group of men and women.  I felt so fortunate to have met all of you.  My Dad was so lucky to have served with such a great group of men that are a part of the 517th PRCT.  All of you made me feel like a part of the 517th family and you all have helped me so much with finding out about a part of my Dad’s life that I never new about.  I hope my Son feels the same way I did and I know that right now he does not have a clue how lucky he is to be able to meet all of you.  I know that he will be glad he made the trip and I am also glad he is going to meet such a great group of people.  I really think this will teach him what REAL friends are all about. We will be in Monday afternoon and I am looking forward to seeing some of the people I met in Florida and also some new people that I have only spoken to and e-mailed. I am really looking forward to coming to Oklahoma.   See you soon. Chris LindnerNate Rubenstein’s daughter

I made an attempt to get a cost figure together Ben, and it was $1,000.00
for my wife and I ,  and we don't live all that far from Oaklahoma City,
that included the side trips??? Airfare alone was more than going twice
as far to Vegas, To be very frank old friend I would rather go to Vegas
for that kind of money???(yea and loose $2,000.00 more)  Sorry Ben it
would have been nice to see you again, and I will probably regret it. as
old Father time is striking at all of us 517teenrs, It will be
interesting to see where they will bid to hold the next one???and if the
idea carrys to hold one every year instead of the way they do it now,
That every year idea has been around for some time now. An old friend
Tom McAvoy P.S.  Do you know if Jack Dunaway is still liveing??? He has
got to be 88 or 89  or so???

Tom Stadler mentioning about his father, Burton L. Stadler receiving a commendation letter from Dearing, 517th Intel O. reminds me that sometimes in June Albin Pasteur Dearing will be celebrating his 94th year on this planet earth.  Last time I received any communication from Albin was in l986 about the time we were completing the Paratrooper's Odyssey.  Is there anyone who knows how he is doing?

We have Albin Dearing on our latest roster, but could not locate him on the internet. His last address was 114 Smokey Crossing Way, Seynour, Tn--Ben

5-31-03 Hi Ben: It’s me again!!! This is great but I will tell you it is not just for people over 50.  I have not reached the 50 year mark yet and I remember a lot of these things.  My Mother-in-Law went to a one room school house and grew up on a farm in St. Louis (she passed away 3-17-03).  She always told my kid stories of her growing up and they loved it and yet couldn’t believe it.  My Mom doesn’t tell as many stories but the ones she tells are good. What I wonder is what I will be telling my grandchildren!! I miss the days when you could go outside and play all day and we kept our house unlocked.  It seemed so much easier then.  Sometimes I think we have ruined a lot of fun times with all the “MODERN” things of today.   See you next week. Chris

Ben,

I am 43, and I remember all of them.  Guess I should cover it with my kids.
They laugh when we tell about the clunky tv channel tuners that you actually
had to get up to change, and you only got 3 channels -- poorly, like a snow
storm!

Thanks for the warm and fuzzy!

You, Fran, and all of our friends enjoy the reunion.  We will certainly be thinking about you all.  We are very disappointed we couldn't work out the logistics this year but we tried.

We would like to have copies of any pictures you may take there and also a copy of any video made if there is one.

Have a safe trip and remember us to all of our friends.

Dot and Andrew
