Good Evening Ben and Bob,

I am very pleased that you have added my Father to your mailing list.  He will be very excited to receive your quarterly publication.  I am also sending him the mail call that you are emailing to me.  If there is a fee for the publication or if I can make a donation, please let me know what your mailing address is and I would be proud and honored to contribute to the 517th PRCT.  Thank you again for your consideration and for including my Father and I.

While browsing thought the 508 website , I cam across the following. We have this Manual on our website.  Note quote from Tom Reber. -Ben
                                            ***********************

This training manual belonged to, and was signed by, Lt. Robert J. Reber (now deceased) of the 517th P.I.R and it's contents have been made available to us by his son, Tom Reber.

Cover, 1943 Jump School Training Manual

Our promise to give Tom credit for these photos elicited the response of "I am simply a caretaker of a fragment of history.  The fine gentlemen of the 517th and brother units made [the] history. It is truly my pleasure to help the WW-II paratroopers get the recognition they richly deserve. Best of luck for your site and pass on my good wishes to all of the 508'ers."Nonetheless, we thank Tom got his time-consuming effort to scan these pages and for providing this unique look back at the Jump School, Ft. Benning, 1943.This booklet of training photos appears to have been sized to slip into a side pocket of the infamous parachutist's "baggy pants".  Trainees undoubtedly spent lots of time looking at these photos to familiarize themselves with what type of training was coming and the techniques they would have to learn.  Although the photos in the manual cover the gamut of jump school training, it is interesting that it contains nothing else.  Tom Reber stated "There is absolutely no text inside the booklet.  The only text is what is on the cover.  I am purely guessing when I say this, but I think that the censors would not allow any description of what I believe to have been 'experimental training' techniques."

Dear Ben: When I woke this morning I could tell that it was about 0500. In my mind’s eye, I could see my digital clock paying tribute to all those fine old paratroop regiments–501, 502, 503, 504, 505, 506, 507, 508, 509, 511, 513, and 515. When I pulled myself up to look at the clock it said, "517" and I knew it was going to be a good day for all our troopers. I will be out of packet for a few days. The West Roxbury VA is doing a surgical procedure on the "wound" (no purple heart for this one) on my left instep. It has been treated daily since August, so let’s pray for some progress. Hold the Fort, Howard H.
