Ben,

It has been a long time since I have sent a note to anyone in the 517 family, but as I told you about 2 years ago my father, Rudolph (RUDY) Cervantes, died and was very fond of everyone he saw in Palm Springs a few years ago. Any way as I was looking through an endless amount of paper work I stumbled across this photo and wondered if it is from the 517th family. Rudy is the one on the bottom left and I have no clue who the other HEROES are but would love to find out! If you can post this on the site or in an email I would be grateful and hope that some of the HEROES are still with us and I could contact them. Thanks a lot.

I DON'T REMEMBER HOW I GOT THE PATCH. I DON'T KNOW IF IT WAS ISSUED TO US OR IF WE PURCHASED IT AS INDIVIDUALS. I REMEMBER WE GOT IT IN SOUTHERN FRANCE BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER WHEN OR WHERE. THE MAKER DIDN'T HAVE ANY RED THREAD SO THE RED PARTS ARE A FUNNY PINK. I STILL HAVE THE PATCH.

Mr. Barrett,
I have an old poster from the battle of the bulge. It is a picture
of an unshaven paratrooper and he is quoted "Get behind me, I am in the 82nd
Airborne and this is as far as the bastards are going" or something pretty
close to that. I would love to get another one to have framed for my
office, the one that I currently have is showing its age. If you know of
this poster or where I can get another one I would appreciate your help.

We just received a phone call from Ernst son of Eriic of the 3rd Battalion to give us a change of address etc. Alice took the call. He expressed his pleasure in reading the Cols and wants to be kept on the list.
