Hello,

Bob Christie informs me that donations are ahead of last
year. Many sent in their $20.00 donation during August, the anniversary of Dragoon. December could be a remainder for others. The Battle of The Bulge. I use the month of my birthday as a reminder.

Dear Ben,

Having noticed a common theme of concern over the issue of duplicate mailings, I just want to reassure everyone that it is easily overcome once we have agreement on where to draw the line.  The line being defined as to when to stop duplication of families/friends/etc..  We are speaking of snail mail and not duplicate e-mail addresses, correct?

I will have a draft out this weekend to Gene Frice, Bob Christie, Ben Barrett and Howard Hensleigh.  After their input, then I will clean it up and seek to make it as accurate and complete as possible.

I sure enjoy hearing the recollections.  Keep it up.

Best regards,

Tom Reber

Ben, Tom. If I can help with the "associates" project, I'd be happy to try. Just let me know what I need to do.  Mark Landreth

Koran 9:11 Refers to the American Military Action in Iraq-Fiction!

Summary of the eRumor
A verse in the Koran, which happens to correspond to the date of the Attack on America, predicts that "the wrath of the Eagle" would be felt throughout the lands of Allah.
The Truth
This is a hoax.
The quote is not from anywhere in the Koran (or Quran).
Chapter 9 verse 11 actually says "But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and we make the communications clear for a people who know."  (M. H. Shakir translation)

Origins:   No, this isn't a legitimate quotation from the Quran (or Koran), the sacred text of Islam. The chapter and verse citation quoted above is a leg-pull, an obvious play on the USA's (the Eagle) launching of military action against Afghanistan and Iraq (the "lands of Allah") in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks on America organized by Osama bin Laden (the "son of Arabia awakening a fearsome eagle"). That the chapter and verse selection match the date of the terrorist attacks (9:11) is another giveaway to the joke.

Ben I don't know if you have any acess to these C.Ds. that Brien makes or
not,  They have to be interesting, Everyone has a lot of stories to tell
, Most people I know really like to read them,  O! yes another
commentary,  I had a Lt.Col write to me 35- 40 years ago(I have no idea
where he got my name )but requested any stories I might have ,  Since I
had wrote a very small booklet about 30 -40 pages of my expierences in
service(in the 517)  I sent him a copy,  Can you believe this( This guy
admits he never saw combat) but has the guts to tell me that he doesn't
believe my  stories  of our training or combat???Thanks Alot  jerk ,You
never paid for the book , You don't have any idea what  the real world is
like and you try to pass judgement on some-one that has been there??? O!
yes he was the one that did the book on Dick Spencers expierences  so he
gave me honorable mention in the back of the book, by stating that I had
been a contributor but none of my material was used???  Tom McAvoy

Hi Ben:

I have been reading the “Mail Calls” but for most of this year my family has been in a bit of turmoil.  Things seems to be straightening out (at least for the last 3 weeks anyway).  I just wanted to let you know that if there is anything that I can do to help with the rosters, mailings, or anything that you might need I would be happy to do so.  I don’t mind sending things to members that are not on the e-mail and I don’t even mind paying for postage.  With everything that you and your son do anything that I could do would only be small in comparison to what you do, Bob does and Bob Christie and many others.

Please let me know if I can help the 517th in anyway.  I would be more that happy to help.

 Thanks,

 Chris Lindner

Hello Ben,  I am pleased  we got the message regarding Gen Seitz award
on October 6 in D.C.  Ann Pugh (Mrs. Charlie) lives there now and I
called her about this.  She was very pleased to hear about it and if
health permits, she will be    there.   Thanks for your good work!  Hope
several of our troops can be there.                        June Huffman

Tom, The roster and mailing list are on an Excel spreadsheet.Any time you wish it,I can attach a copy of the updated roster for you.The updating is constant especially right after a Thunderbolt mailing. I finally have my new layout all hooked up.Bought a new scanner for $87.00. The complete computer table cost $99.00 if they send me a bill.
When I bought the center at Office Depot,it was marked down from $149.95.They said they would deliver it.I assumed I would pay on delivery.I made out a check for my Mildred to give to the driver.Surprise!,he said it was paid for. We shall see.So far,I have spent about $155.00.I have lots of material for the Thunderbolt, but have heard from only a few of the 66 who were sent letters by Big Degner. Bob Christie

Hi,  Glad you guys are getting together.  Sounds like some good bargains,
Bob C.  Hope you got the thing assembled.  Many hands make light work.  If
Gene Frice or I can help wighout getting in the way, let us know.  I hope we
can get the wives, widows descendants and guys from the unit organizatins
from squads to battalions communicating with each other, with us and through
Mail Call and the Thunderbolt.  If so the reunions will be well attended and
we should take in a little more than we spend.  The remaining kitty con keep
the website alive for posterity.  My best, Howard Hensleigh
