Hello,
I am sending "Mail Call" out today so that you will know about Merle's
situation, the good news about Chop Chop Mars and also to inform all about
the AOL virus.
I am attaching a download to show how history can be distorted. For those who
may not be able to download, it is a copy of the front page of a video that
the History Channel.com produced. It is the first two lines that I am
referring to. They say "In the predawn hours of June 6,1944. thousands of men
parachuted from fragile gliders behind the Nazi lines.

Sign the guestbook if you having done so. It is a permanent record. However,
you can add to it or change it whenever you wish.

Dear Ben:

>>> Ben said>>>>All Airborne should be indebted to you for the Drop Zone.

It's you guys and your sacrifices that my generation is indebted to.  I'm so
proud of every veteran that participated in Beyond Valor and all the help I
received from the associations.  It took a lot of guts to talk about some
of these very personal accounts.  The brotherhood, love towards one
another and  those that didn't return as well as those who died in their
arms, comes through in these stories.  Many of these accounts
brought tears to my eyes as well as those of the men I interviewed. I was
always asked to tell their story as they told it to me and not to sugarcoat
the war, I think that goal was accomplished.  You guys deserve all of the
credit for the sacrifices you made, and as Tom Brokaw correctly put are"The
Greatest Generation."

Pat

Ben, thanks for the message. It was certainly my  pleasure to attend the
gathering of the "Battling Buzzards" if only as an honorary member of
the 517.

Talked to Ed Flannery this afternoon to get the E-Mail address to check
in with you. I don't propose to send a lot of input to your regimental
news chain, but as an honorary 517'er
I'm interested in hearing about the fine folks that I met in Orlando and
the many that I've
known from days gone by.

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: My father, Haskel Dale Alvey, was a member of the 517th He died in
1971 and like most real veterans did not say much about his experiences. If
any of you remember him, I would apprieciate any information on his service
time. I have a letter stating that he was awarded the Bronze Star for action
in 1944. My father was the bravest man that I have ever known and he was
especially proud to have been in the 517th.

Hi Ben,
I wanted you to know I copied that booklet for you. Had a time being sure I
turned the pages right so I could put it together. I mailed it yesterday so
you should be getting it soon. I didn't try to staple it. Maybe you will want
to make more copies of it and it is easier when it isn't stuck together.
Looking forward to the reunion in May now that we decided to go.
Merle was supposed to have his surgery tomorrow but Mardy E-mailed me and
said he has a cold so they postponed it until next week. The waiting has to
be torture. He probably wants to get it over with so he can get on  with his
life.
Enjoy the booklet.

Leo

The booklet Leo is talking about is the 1994 rosters.

So sorry the mail call isn't coming through.  We have a mailstation just
for e-mailing but would think it would still get through.  We are computer
eliterate so are not knowing why it wouldn't work.  Your mail call #55
subject shows up but informs us the message is truncated.  Is what you send
an attachment?  Maybe that is why we can't get it.  Is the message some of
the guys addresses that you are sending?  Just sorry it isn't working.  Can
you figure it out?  Maybe you have to list each of their addresses
separately-but that is a whole lot of extra work too.   Thanks for trying.
   Sid Felber

Dad:  The problem might be just that the message is too long for the
"mymailstation.com" service.  Below is some info from their web site.  My
guess is that the headers and address info alone might take up the 66 lines.
And attachments won't work at all.

I would try sending him a short message and make sure he can get that.

Another way to get email is to sign up for a free public service, like Joanne
does with "excite.com".  Then he could pick up the email on someone else's
computer or at a library.  I realize that is inconvenient, but that may be
the only solution if his station is cutting it off.

Bob
--------------------------

Q:
Does MailStation™ have e-mail size limitations?

A: Yes. MailStation does limit individual e-mail messages to 8K, which is
approximately 66 lines per e-mail. If you reply to an e-mail, the original
message, including the headers and routing information, is considered part of
the 66 lines of allowable space. If the message exceeds the 66-line
limitation, the end of the e-mail message will be deleted.
Tip: If you receive a notification, "You have reached the maximum e-mail
size," you are out of typing space and need to edit your message or send your
message in two separate e-mails.

Q: Why have I received a "truncated" notification on my MailStation™?

A: The "truncated" notification indicates an e-mail or attachment exceeded
the message size limitation. MailStation does limit individual e-mail
messages to 8K, which is approximately 66 lines per e-mail. Although you can
receive attachments and photos with MailStation, you cannot open them.
Instead, the attachments and photos are available at mail.mymailstation.com
and can be accessed using a computer.

Ben,
I received your message and am truly thankful. I have some pictures that I
have
restored. I will send them with this message. The only one with any date is
the one
in the center which states November,1943.
