How I found the 517th page: Heard from a member of the 517th
Comments: Good friend of mind and the 517th, my father-in-law, Sgt. J. K. Horne, Jr. (517th '43-45) and National President of the 517th ('97-99) joined his many good friends who have gone before to the Post Everlasting. Commander of American Post 30 1961 in Albany GA,gave all he had but lost his fight to double-pneumonia. He loved the 517 the because of the many of the brave men that he served with. For the past 33 yrs I have heard many stories of the events that he and his friends had during WWII. The 517th lost another loyal supporter, one that never wanted to miss any of the reunions, J. K. will now be with John Young and the many others who loved America and served well. I Loved that man.

Our paper, the Times Union, had a big write up on one of ours, Albin Dearing.  He was part of Reg. Hq. in the 517 and highly decorated and a national know arts patron and author.  He was 94 years of age and grew up in Jacksonville, Florida.  Memorial gifts may be made to St.Catherne Laboure, 1750 Stockton St, Jacksonville, Fl 32204 where he lived in his final years.

He was not listed in the Roster we received in OK City but he was listed in the one preceding as living in Seymour, Tn.  I played tennis with his nephew many years ago, Circuit Judge Peter Dearing, but I never made a connection between the two.

I will snail mail the article to you Ben should you wish to display it in Mail Call.  Keep up the great job you and Bob do.  Thanks for your Super efforts.

Hi, Ben

Don't know if you want this information, but I can fill in a couple of blanks on the roster.  My dad was in "D" company, 2nd Btln.  My home address is 3902 Golfview Dr., Mechanicsburg, PA 17050  Phone is 717-728-0262.

Best regards to you and Bob,

Mike Kane

This mail by James and Mike  is the kind of information that we are seeking so that Tom can keep the roster uptodate.-Ben

Ben..Have you ever had this happen...when I try to pull up the roster I get a blinking on my entire screen. If I leave it alone it will finally just go dark(black). I still have not gottten the roster. Anyone else report this kind of problem?  Randolph Coleman

Not sure exactly what the problem is, as the file, which is in "pdf" format, is actually not that big -- smaller than many of the photos on the site -- and should not take too long to download.

But one possibility is that these people might not have a copy of the Adobe Reader program, which needs to be downloaded first in order to read any pdf file. Without that program, the computer might not know what to do with the file.  (You only have to load this program once, and it is a free industry-standard program.)

To get a copy of the Adobe Reader program, there is a link at the very bottom of the "Documents" page. Click on the block that says "Get Adobe Reader" and follow the instructions.

think you might have a virus - the same email has been received by me about 16 times so far

If she is saying that he received THE SAME message, a Mail Call, from you, 16 times, and she is on your list, then it is not a virus from someone else.  But you don't have a virus.

Is she the only one that received the exact same mail call multiple times?  If so, then it might just be some problem along the way with one of the ISP/email systems that has nothing to do with your email or hers.  Just keep an eye on it.  If it is a one-time thing, then don't worry about it.

Has anyone else had the  problems that Randolph and Bobbie -Jo have encountered ?-Ben

Hi Ben,
While tracking 'round the web for additional 517 info, came upon this web site -- and after entering 517th and 517th prct in their search field, found no links to your site -- which, of course, there should be.  Thought you'd be best person to fill in the blanks.  Many thanks for all your diligence and hard work.  We sincerely appreciate it.
