Hello,
I will send out the latest news about Merle as
soon as I receive it. Bob
Christie sent me the latest news that I now have.
His mail is below.
We have just completed adding on the content page The
Parachute Combat Team
by Colonel Graves. Bob is also working to complete
the 1944 roster in
Christmas Greetings on contents page. Leo Turco and Ed
Flannery has been
sending us the material to do so.
It has been a
furious weekend. Bob has been trying to complete the 1944
roster and also
put on the site the book by Colonel Graves. It is a history
of the 517th. We
have been getting mail seeking information about relatives
and guestbook
entries. Just hope I didn't omit too much or got anything mixed
up Yesterday
we had four inquiries seeking infofrmation about fathers and
uncles who
served with the 517. I am sending this out now before I get more
confused.
May be ommissions or duplications.
Ben

Ben--Thanks! For the update on Merle. He will do fine
I had the 4-way almost
8 yrs ago, along with an angioplasty before the
operation. 7 heart caths in
all, in that time period since then.
I had a pseudo aneurysm caused by
repeated caths in the groin area
They took care of that, Ben, no problem
They do a cath every so
often to check on your progress. Made 81 yrs. so
far. Feel lucky to be
here. Merle will see many moons yet. God Bless Him.

Thanks for the update on Merle. It's good to
know that things went well for
him. If you write to his wife, let her
know that, if he was on the
heart/lung bypass machine, there may be some
mental confusion. This is
normal. However, we weren't told this
and were a little concerned when
Andrew seemed very confused for about 3-5
days. I have since done some
research on this and talked with other
families who went thru it and found
that this usually passes after a week or
so. Thanks again

Ben:
Reference your questions
regarding Colonel Graves's article that was
published in Blue Book Magazine.
Colonel Graves was the author of the
article. It appeared in three monthly
installments. It was also printed in
serial form in our 517th Thunderbolt
newspaper. Clark still has a complete
set and if you would like a copy he
will be glad to send it to you. It seems
like Clark has a copy of everything
that was ever written about the 517th. I
hope I can get down to his house to
see where he has stored all of this
material. He has sent a lot of his
material to the US Army Historical
Institute at Carlisle Barracks, Pa. I
plan to pay another visit to that place
when I go up north sometime this
year- I hope.
Clark mentioned the query that was directed to
individuals concerning the
517th Pathfinders in Operation Dragoon. he asked
that inform you that he sent
Michel De Trez, the author of the book titled
First Airborne Task Force,
considerable info on this subject some of which
should be in the book. I do
not know whether you have a copy of De Trez's
book.
No more news or traffic at this time.
Regards, Tom

Thanks, Bob,
Here's a
treasure. It's the autographs pages (inside front and back covers)
from my
father's "Blue Book." I asked him if it was okay to send, so here it
is. It's in .jpg format and will display beautifully full screen as
is.
You may want to do a postage stamp as the full thing would slow down the
casual looker.
Thanks for listing Dad's bronze star. He got it
after the Roehr River mess,
where he directed artillery fire as a forward
observer.
Yes, the 460th was folded into the 517th, though my wording
may not be
exactly right.

Ed has been transmitting to us copies of The Combat Team by
Colonel Graves
which we arw placing on the website.
Ben
Here are
some figures for those of you who need or want them.
Total time to send booklet
was 46 minutes. Actual transmission time (on 56K)
was 34
minutes. Time of transmission was between 2 and 3 AM on Sunday
morning. This compares with 1 hour and 45 minutes during prime time.
(evening).
The 14 files total 2693 K, or 2.7 Meg.
I have them stored on
3 ea. 3 1/2" disks as follows.
Attack1 and 2 on a disk.
Attack 3
and 4 (pictures) on another.
Atack5 and 6 on another.
While
numbering in the upper right corner I missed or skipped two pages.
That is why two of them are marked no #.
The order of scanning was as
follows. I removed the staples. Turned the
book facedown and
started with the cover, both sides. Then each succeeding
page the
same.
Also, I could not get a message on the web earlier.
There was some messages
in the outbox when I logged back on. They went
out automatically. If you
got an empty message or a late message that
is why.
Have
