Subject: Mail Call NO. 60
Hello,
We are glad to place in our mailing list at their request, people who are not
members of the 517thPRCT. However some mail may be boring to them and
clogging up their mail box and if so we can remove their names at anytime.
I think we have completed the 1944 roster under Christmas Greetings. This
has been a valuable source for information. However, it list only the names
of the men with the 517 at approximately that time. Some members may have
been with us before or after and may not be on that roster.

_XX_This XX is just to remind me to include the download

Hey guy,
Happy to hear of your return home-you are a tough bird (old bird). We
need you, so get to work ...(please).
Marg report: She is in our second home in an assisted care apartment near
our two nurse daughters in OR. So now I commute from OR to CA several times a
month.  She is doing quite well and getting around with the walker only for
balance. Has a way to go and has to be very careful (don't we all).
I have waited to make reservations in Palm Springs and Bismark until I
had a better reading on Marg's condition.
    Hope to see you soon.
Gene and Margaret Frice, F Co
PS  Don't tell me about the Bismark snow or cold-it's snowing here in San
Luis Obispo-some storm-our Interstate 5 has been closed for two days-however
it's a bit warmer than yo all

Hello Ben,
I've already mailed your son and said I'd add your site to my own links
pages. You have both done a good job with your site and as I've found you
always find little ways of improving it as time goes on.

Best wishes
Simon

In response to your posting on the WW2 genealogy forum:

[I have cousin, Henry Richard Kleinendorst,(Klink) who was a 1st LT. in the
517th during World War II and am interested in linking up with someone
familiar with the history of the unit.]

Lynn:

You should visit the 517th web site for plenty of history and contacts for
the 517th.

    http://members.aol.com/PRCT517/

Sign on the guestbook and I'm sure you'll get plenty of info.

If you check the "1944 Christmas in France" posting, you can see that your
cousin was in Company A of the 1st Battalion.  His Silver Star is also listed
in the Decorations page.

There are several members of Company A signed in already on the guest page,
so I'm sure you can get more info from them, including  Col. Bill Boyle, who
was  the 1st Battalion Commander.

Sorry that you don't know the names of the "young men" on that picture. I
will send you their names as soon as I can, but important things get top
priority. I had to take my wife to the hospital this morning, she her broken
her wrist about 3 weeks ago and it hasn't healed so the doctors must put pins
and a metal bar in her arm. I will identify the guys as soon as I get
time.     Ray Hess

I will include the picture as a download in this mail.
Ben

Comments: My grandfather was a Staff Sergeant in the 1st battalion. He died
in 1976 about 9 months before I was born. I never personally knew him, but I
have only heard good things about him. I love to hear stories from my mother
and my aunts and uncles. I'll be glad when I finally get to meet him. I just
want to say thank you to all of his friend in the battalion. He was a great
guy and appreciated all of the friendships which he had.

wanting to know of a George Kireff possibly a member of the 517 when we
parachuted into France.(company unknown) but since he was known by these
people of Seillans  it could very well have been Hdq. 3rd Battalion???
he has since passed away (I donot know when he passed) Thankyou for any
information.  Tom McAvoy

Hello Bob,
Thanks for adding the link to my site, I will add one to your own very soon.
I'm planning a page for a new Re-enactment group based around 506 Parachute
Infantry, so you may well get linked to them also.

Best Wishes
Simon

Dear Arnold:

I have been told you have not been getting the Thunderbolt.  I looked on Bill
Lewis' mailing list and for some reason you and a number of others from
Belgium and France are not on it.  I will correct that oversight today  I
will also send you the four back issues for last year.

On another matter, we would like to have you, Irma and Maria come to our
reunion.  As our guests, there would be no costs for registration, lodging or
costs associated with the events planned.

Please let me know what your plans are for May 2001 and whether you would be
able to join us.

A Gene Brissey would like to have you spend time with him after the reunion
as his guest.
