The Machine gun picture in 603 caused me to write. I spent Christmas Eve on a road block with a machinegun and I had a bazuka . several others had rifles. Does anyone else remember that. Even now especly if the weather is bad I go to a empty church by myself on Christmas Eve. Dick Hammel Co E

How I found the 517th page: From a search engine
Comments: I have been asked by my father to do a search for units and personnel that he served with during WW2.Thanks to your excellent coverage of the 517th i am able to hopefully get alot of information for him.His name is Wayne C. Ervine and he lives in Vale,Oregon. If anybody recognizes him or can supply any info to me i would be deeply indebted to you.He specifically mentioned serving under 1st Lt. John A. Alicki and Capt. Robert Newberry. Thank you for your help and more importantly to all of you for your sacrifices to our Great Nation.Semper Fi,John R. Ervine

They swept across Iraq and conquered it in 21 days. They stand guard on streets pot-holed with skepticism and rancor. They caught Saddam Hussein. They are the face of America, its might and good will, in a region unused to democracy. The U.S. G.I. is TIME's Person of the Year

Ben, talked to Clark Archer tonight and he said he plans to drive over
(and back) for the Kissimmee Reunion Dinner and I said that I
would like to drive over the day of the banquet and drive back on the
22d Jan .
Since we have lost Ed Flannery ( a fine trooper and a good friend ) and
with whom I worked in handling the Class VI supplies for the reunions
I think that this Honorary 517'er will plan to visit with the troopers
and their families in the aternoon and then attend the dinner on the
evening of the 21st . I would appreciate it
someone would "ear-mark" one dinner ticket for me and for which I will
pay when I arrive.
I don't know how many "honorary 517'ers"
there are but this "old 505'er" is proud to be
one and will be wearing my name tag to prove it.
Thanks for your assistance and I look forward to seeing you and the
others at the gathering.
AIRBORNE-- all th way-- BobPiper
PS I will arrange for my own billets.
