History Channel will air the following show on Sunday, March 7, 2004.

9-10pm EST -- History Alive - Battle of the Bulge:
The First 15 Days
In December 1944, Hitler prepared a strike force
to split the Allies, hoping to destroy all Allied
forces north of the Antwerp-Brussels-Bastogne
line. With 22 new divisions, reequipped with
tanks and Luftwaffe units to support his ground
attack, Hitler was ready to surprise Allied
commanders in a plan that he called "Operation
Grief". See how the largest pitched battle in the
history of U.S. warfare became the scene of some
of WWII's fiercest fighting, making the Bulge one
of Hell's Battlefields.

Ben--Couldn't bring up the Helicopter mpeg video? "said my version of Nero had expired"?

Any help?

Carlos

Bob Barrett

Nero is software used to create CD's and DVD-ROMs.  I don't know why that would have anything to do with viewing an MPG video.  Normally, the computer is setup to up to use either Microsoft Windows Media Player or RealOne player to view videos.

The bigger problem might just be that his connection is too slow.  If he is using a dial-up modem, then it is probably not worth it.  If he has a fast connection, he could try this:

1.  Open the Microsoft Windows Media Player (On most computers that can be found at:  Start; Programs, Accessories, Multimedia, Windows Media Player)
2.  Use File; Open, and type in:

That should load and open the file.  But it is a large file (4.7 MB).

My Uncle, Wayne Jackson, of Harrison, Arkansas was in Company C of the 517th, together with his best friend "Tilly" Shaddox.

I have been talking to him lately about his service and reading all I can about the 517th.  I would like to hear from someone from Company C who knew these men.

I would like to get a copy of Captain Charles La Chaussee"s
Memoirs if I could.

Wayne received a Silver Star but he is not listed as so in the awards and medals list. The citatiion is listed on his discharge papers and he has the medal. Perhaps someone can help me on this. He has some records but the Star citation is not among them and I'm reluctant to ask.

Also he mentioned that several members of the the 517th jumped at Normandy of D Day.  He said several men from each unit were sent to England to get the jump experience. There is a local newspaper article about he and Shaddox jumping that day.  He said he jumped with the 82nd Airborne behind Omaha.  I have not read of this happening in any of the publications; perhaps someone could tell me about this event.

My Uncle and his wife of 58 years live in Harrison, Arkansas, but are going though a tough time. His wife is bedridden and he is carring for her.
