Gene Frice

Ben,
I will be at Palm Springs and will have a lap-top available.
Things are calming down for the Frice family following Marg's departure. We are having the San Luis Obispo service on April 10.
The family thanks all in the 517th for their prayers for Margaret. At a law enforcement gathering of some 1500 officers last week in in Long Beach, CA they had a moment of silence and prayer for her. She was active with several military and law enforcement organizations for many years. We will all miss her. God Bless you all.
     Gene Frice and family,
PS-The Frice family (Gene, Karen, Laurie and Robin) are all headed to DDay, 5June04 (60th anniversary) with Don Lassen's "Static Line." I will return to Southern France for the August 15, 60th anniversary)

Nolan Powell

Ben,

Today, I received a phone call from Betty Lowe. She is Clinton Lowe's wife.

Clinton A. Lowe of "C" Co. 517th Parachute Infantry Regiment died on March 6, 2004. He was on the Board of Directors and a past President of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team during the 1980's. His
address is:  RR1 Box 101 Rolling Oaks
                  Driftwood, Texas 78619
                  Tel No. - (512) 847-9479

We called him "TEX". He looked and talked the part. He was ten years older than most of us youngsters and he had many tales to tell. We
enjoyed talking and serving with him.

Aaron Bank

LOS ANGELES -- Retired Army Col. Aaron Bank, a military icon called "the father of the Green Berets" for his role as the first commander of the Army's elite Special Forces, died Thursday, family said. He was 101.

In 1952, the Army approved 2,300 spaces for men in a Special Forces unit, the 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), at Fort Bragg, N.C. Bank was a key figure in pushing for its creation.

He also is credited with writing a memorandum suggesting that Special Forces soldiers be allowed to wear berets as a mark of distinction.

The Army initially turned the idea down. But in 1962, four years after Bank retired from the military, President John F. Kennedy authorized Army Special Forces to wear berets. All soldiers began wearing berets in 2001, but most wear black.

Ben - can post this - small world.  John

Hello Mr Hennessey,

I was browsing the 517 PIR email and saw YOU!  My father in law Ed Marconi (deceased) was in Co A of the 517.

Hello 517, Mr Hennessey was in my fathers battalion of the 345th Inf Regiment of the 87th Golden Acorn Division.  We email each other from time to time and I had assisted him in getting his profile onto the HBO Band of Brothers web site a couple of years ago.

Hope all is well,

John Bramswig
son of S Sgt William Bramswig Co F 345th, 87th
