Ben, I noted, with interest,
the name of Roy Landreth in this Mail Call
and just wanted to say I knew Roy
,after WW II, and he was all
gentleman, all airborne trooper and a
proud
member of the airborne officer ranks.

If you (Mark Landreth)
read this I knew your father pretty well. I knew him
however from later
assignments. I am Bill Boyle. I was C.O. 1st Bn. I knew
him in the %11 and
11th Abn as well as later 517 reunions. Also I know that
Tom Cross and
Bill Pencak also know him, especially from later assignments.
I can be
reached by E mail as wildbill517@aol.com

Jim Royer,
Ben, received your reply.
The first three lines were great, but the rest
looked just like before, a
censored letter, with parts blacked out. Will
be glad to hear of a solution.
I plan to hear from MSN tomorrow. Will
keep you informed.
This morning in church, I placed Jesse and Joe's name on our prayer
list.
Each Wednesday, during our intercessory prayer , every name on
that list is
listed up in prayer, and it is usually a rather large list.
Let's all keep the faith.

Thanks, Ben, for the
"fast answer" and advice on getting the Mail Call
info.
I don't
get on this thing too often and when I do I find more junk mail,
dirty adds,
and crap than you can shake a stick at. Just "gotta" find a
way to dump this
garbage. This is what is filling my mail box.
For your info I'll be
on the Lassen Tour from late May to 12 June. Back
to visit St Mere
Eglise
in Normandy as well as quick stops in Holland, Belgium and
England.
Don't be surprised if the mail box really fills up while I'm "out
of
country".
Even though I'm but an honorary 517'er I thoroughly enjoy
your fine
efforts in keeping old airborne troopers "clued-in".
Maybe
I'll see you at Bragg on 2/3 May.
Take care and keep up the good
work.

Greetings Col. Boyle; Thanks for responding, please
know I appreciate it. Though we've not met, I kinda feel as if I've known
you all my life via dad's mentioning your name over the
years and, more recently, seeing your posts to mail call. A lot of
water's flowed under the bridge since dad passed in September '01, but my
respect for his (and all of y'all's) accomplishments has only grown. Taking
time to learn about his background, I found he was drafted in
April '43 and "rescued" from the textile mills in South Carolina. Over
the years, he did pretty well for himself. I don't know that he ever really
aspired to be more than 1SGT of a parachute infantry company until my mom
came along. But, for a country boy raised in an orphanage and who quit high
school to wind up making bird colonel is impressive by any fair
standard. In looking at his 201 file, I saw where 517ers intersected his career
at various points and how, even then, they looked after him. Joe Stedman of D
Co. was his 1SGT when dad got his first company. An efficiency report his
former E Co. C.O., Tom Cross, wrote when dad was a Major probably
played a large part in him getting silver oak leaves. So, in
a way, "Band of Brothers" was the story of E Co. 517th, too. I wish you His
peace. Thanks. For everything.

Dad,
I jut got this
email.
But I don't see Marvin Moles listed on the [current] roster or
MailCall list.
Apparently Jean Loup managed to find him. Do you want to ask Jean
for
contact info? We should get a copy of the newspaper
article.

Hello
A while back, I had written you, saying I was looking
for any info about PFC Marvin Moles, because over here
in France, I had found a helmet with his name on it.
Thanks to your great internet site, I found his
complete name, and then I looked him up in the white
pages. I managed to locate him, and contact him, and
tell him I had his helmet from the war. He was very
happy, and sent me some pictures of himself during the
war. There was even an article written in the local
newspaper about the story.
Keep up the good work.
Jean Loup
