Hello,
I will be leaving for the
East Coast tomorrow and so I will try to clean things up with this last "Mail
Call" from Ca. Some mail may have been lost and I have been unable to use
downloads on a computer other than my own. Send again any unanswered
inquiries.

Dear Ben,
You said I could write if I had further
questions. Here is
one. Is it possible to add
my name to the 517th mail
call list?...Is this the best
avenue for me to contact
members? I'm
looking for the email addresses of Lud Gibbons
and Frank Dallas as I
have
been told that perhaps I could get information from
them on my KIA
brother,
Jim Birder, of I company. Thank you. Terry (Birder)

Ben thank
you for the contacts. It has really helped.
There is one question that I
haven't been able to find
an answer to. Maybe you or others could help.
My
grandfather mentioned that he was captured and held
captive for 6-7
days by the Germans in or around
LeMuy. Wouldn't his captivity be
considered P.O.W? He
was held captive against his will. Did
the
government not recognize it as a P.O.W captivity? How
about a M.I.A.?
Thanks Ben.

Mr. Barrett,
Lory
Curtis made some comments about Dick Spencer having some "stories" about a Pvt in
H Company. Can you forward this email on to them to inform them that I
would like to know if this was Rudolph Cervantes, My Dad?
Thanks for all
that you do for the memories that are made here every
day!
John Alicki
Received a postcard from
Wayne C. Ervine (Demo Plat) who attended the Palm Springs reunion together with
Raymond Dixon (Reg Hq) and wife. Said, they had a great time among the
approximately 80 WWII 517th band of brothers attending.
Steve
Thank you.
I will
look forward to hearing from any one who knew him or that was with the
460th.
My dad never talked about his service in WWII. My oldest brother
remembers --I remember when we were stationed in Germany that dad took me and
mom to Belgium and he showed us a chicken coop that he hid out in with his
radio, I really had no idea that his outfit was involved in the Battle of the
Bulge.
My goal is to find out what I never had the chance to learn from
dad and to, hopefully, one day travel to Italy, France, Belgium and Germany and
retrace at least some of his
steps.

I was in Headquarters
Battery of the 460th with Jesse Darden. During our training he was one
tough young man. He would go up those ropes as fast as a squirrel.
When some sergeant would tell Jesse to give him 10, Jesse's usual
reply was "Which arm?" Jesse could do more good one-arm pushups than
anyone I have ever seen. During our reunion a few years ago in Columbus,
Georgia Jesse demonstrated he could still do one arm pushups. Of
course, this didn't make Lou too happy.
I'm sure it will not be too long
before this good friend & great trooper will be back in prime
condition.

I am searching for any information, pictures, or simply contact from anyone
who would know my grandfather Alex Tait who passed from us in July of 1996. He
was a 1st Lieutenant in the HQ company of the 517th in WWII. He then went on to
serve in Korea where he ended his time there as a Major. I am extremely proud
that my grandfather had the honor of serving with all of you in the 517th -- I
know that he cherished his connection with you. May God bless each of
you.

He is my grandfather's cousin. We compared experiences (his of Europe, mine of
Iraq). Nice to find a relative who is a fellow paratrooper.

Comments: Private Erwin W.
Scott Jr. was my uncle. I understand that he was in 2nd Battalion, D Company. I
am interested in learning as much as possible about his war experience. I
learned in March 2004 that he was interviewed by the Nimitz Museum to obtain his
oral war history; I am expecting to receive a copy that I would be willing to
share. He passed away on March 28th 2004 and many of the surviving family is
interested to learn more about his WWII experiences. If you knew him or about
him I would be interested in learning your information.
