You may already know, but since I haven't seen
anything on Mail Call about it I thought I would share -- Dad mentioned that the
U.S. Senate declared August 16th Paratrooper Day to commemorate the first class
of Paratroopers who graduated that day in 1940. I probably have the
details incorrectly, but Dad would. Because of the U.S. Senate's action,
next Tuesday, I believe, the Governor of Kansas is having sometime of
commemoration for paratroopers that Dad is going to Topeka for. Just
thought I would pass this along. Is any other state doing anything on this
subject?
thanks gene for the advice. my dad Jesse has his passport from when
he returned to France in 2000. myself and my nephew obtained a 24 hr
passport from a internet service. we have our plane tickets and we have
hotels in Paris and nice. we are taking the train to nice from Paris,
something dad always wanted to do. so in just a few days we accomplished
a lot........by the way i can sign my house papers before i go and the baby
decided to come tomorrow instead of Aug 25th. and i also got a phone to
use in Europe. we have contacted dad's friends in LeMuy and they will be
waiting for us. we will miss the lunch on the 13th but will be there for
the rest of it. my sister, nephew and me and dad will be there.

Hey Ben, trooper Jim Degnan H company 517, was shot in
both knees in
Italy, called me today?? He has had a knee replacement,
but because of
his age, I think 84-85 he is not doing so well, His
surgery was in May
and he was sent to a rehab place?? I don't
know why but he has been a
guy that refuses to take much medication,
especially pain relief
medicine, I don't know what he is trying to
prove but he sure
suffers?? because of it????Everyone to his own I
guess?? I had both my
knees replaced and it came off great several years
ago?? Now I have hip
problems and just may have to have the right one
replaced this next
winter?? Jim's address in case anyone would care to write
to him is James

Hi, Ben, I don't think you have gone out of business, but somehow I am
not receiving 517 e-mail lately Could you please check and see if
you have me at jharob@comcast.net ? and
get me back on board ? Sure would like to keep in touch with you guys.
Here in the Western Washington they have an active chapter of VBOB, that is
for Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Met a lot of great men who shared
that whole scene with us. They have luncheons quarterly and good
speakers

Hi
Ben,
Did get
the note above with the mail call. Thank you so much for including it. I did not
see anything relating to my father but there is so much to review on the web
that it is an ongoing project. Just want to say that band of brothers got me
started and have been reading some books about the 517th. Thank you
for including me in the newsletter.
Sincerely,
Terry
