John Casselman,3.Jack Milojevich,4. Alton Shannyfelt, and 5. Arthur Sherman. These men were all from F. Co. I will see that Bob Christie gets the money right away. Comments: My uncle, Andrew "Bud" Murphy, was KIA in Italy on June 18, 1944. I don't know much about Uncle Bud except that he was a good boxer, popular among friends, and has the distinction of being the first KIA of the 517th in WWII. I have named a son Andrew in his honor and would like to share some information with him about his great uncle as he gets older. If anyone can pass along any stories, photos, etc. about my uncle it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Tom Thornton

How I found the 517th page: Heard from a member of the 517th
Comments: My father Technical Sergeant Roger B Scherer was in the 517th, Service Co 1. He has told some stories but of course, only the "good" things. This past year has been hard on his health and I would like to hear from anyone who may remember dad and have some stories or greetings to pass on to him.

Hi,
The attached is true-the US has sacrificed many-many American lives on foreign soil, to rescue Europe from WWI and WWII. The same can be said for all the countries of Europe. France as well as each of the other countries lost their millions in each of the wars defending their own soil. Of course, their failures to address the threat of the Kaiser (WWI), and Hitler (WWII), or the universal failure to maintain an adequate military strength contributed to their own fate. Our presence today in Iraq and many other countries around the world is more evidence of "meet the threat rather than having it come to you----9/11."
What has not been said in the photo's and text is the majority of the people, with  exceptions (in spite of polls, media, and public officials) are strong supporters of the US and Americans. In our recent travels to Europe (May-June 2004) we saw nothing but support for the US by all we met. We do have friends there-yes, even in France. The Frice clan will be represented there again next week for the 2nd European WWII invasion, (Southern France) by some 250,000 airborne, air, and sea personnel on August 15th, 1944. It has been a long 60 years. God Bless America.

Hi Ben,

In my travels to France with my father I met a great man at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C.  He is the command Sergeant Major there and he sent me this certificate awarded to the 517th  PRCT in 1946.  I have never seen it before and wondered if any one else has.  See the attached copy.

Ben, john davis here. son in law to Olen A. Hughes I Co. 517TH . I would like to mail you a copy of a memorial service, it's dated 9, July 1944. As Olen put it this is where we were introduced to the bullets. How he got back with the original copy is amazing. Anyway he hoped it might be of interest to someone of the 517TH. Some of the words on the last page were colored by the grand kids, I hand wrote them in at the bottom.

Olen Does not mind sending the original as long as he could get it back.
Maybe Bob Christie { Thunder Bolt } Would have some interest.

I just need your mailing address.

Thank You !
