my father served with you. he is in your index and my son (from Afghanistan) recently contacted you about that. my wife (our e-mail is in her name) and I thank you for replying to him. I am a Vietnam vet but I just infantry. this is my son's second trip since 9/11. we have had someone in the family serving proudly since around 1937. we love America and continue to believe in her. I have a tremendous respect for all you people have given to our nation. this site may help me understand better what my father did. He was Bernard W. Mullins and one name I do recall him mentioning was Snuffy Smith. If you are out there, "hello" and if your descendents are out there I remind them to be proud. These people are all heroes.   Mike Mullins

Mike Moles
am writing to add my name to the mail list.  My name is Marvin D. Moles and my email address is mdmoles@mailstation.com.  My address is 4988 Meadow Way, Dublin, VA 24084-5716 and my phone number is (540) 674-0643.  I looked at some of the pictures listed on the web site and I can identify two people on the (Fred Beyer (I Co.) and friends picture.  I have a copy identical to the first picture of 4 men standing in front of the French barracks at Pierra Cava, France.  From left to right- Marvin D. Moles, man with cane (unknown), Charles Bailey, Guy Carr.  I saw where Jean Loup Gassend contacted you about my helmet and we have sent pictures and information back and forth and we have talked on the phone several times.  He has also sent me a photo of him standing in the same spot in front of the French Barracks taken this summer.  I enjoyed looking at the pictures and if you would like I can send you a copy of the newspaper article that was written about the helmet.  Let me know where to mail it to and I will forward a copy to you.

 Thanks,

 Marvin D. Moles

And now for the beginning of the story.-Ben

How I found the 517th page: unknown
Comments: I live in southern France and have a paratrooper helmet from the 517th with the name Moles written on it. Apparently this would be the helmet of PFC MARVIN O. MOLES . If any body has any information whatsoever about this person, please inform me! I would love to hear from you. Jean Loup

RE:  The recent letter in the 517 Guestbook from Jean Loup:

Marvin D. Moles is listed in the 44 Christmas Roster as part of I Company.  Jean Loup picked up the name "PFC Marvin O. Moles".  I figure that the only way he would know that is that he found Moles listed with exactly that spelling in the Decorations page.  Moles received a Silver Star.

Subject: paratrooper story

Hello

A while back, I had written you, saying I was looking
for any info about PFC Marvin Moles, because over here
in France, I had found a helmet with his name on it.
Thanks to your great internet site, I found his
complete name, and then I looked him up in the white
pages. I managed to locate him, and contact him, and
tell him I had his helmet from the war. He was very
happy, and sent me some pictures of himself during the
war. There was even an article written in the local
newspaper about the story.
Keep up the good work.

Jean Loup

Hi Ben....I'm Chairman of the North Central Florida Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Assn., and recently ran a series of articles in the various local newspapers designed to spread the word of Airborne and to get new members.  One lady responded, and lo and behold, she was a Flight Nurse during our invasion of Southern France.  Please add her to your Mail Call list, and ask Bob Christie to contact her for the Mini Reunion in Jan.  Her e-mail address is: dorothycc1920@aol.com.  Thanks...phil mc spadden

Comments: I found this page through MSN WebTV search. I am making a web page honoring my father, a Paratrooper Infantryman in the 517th PRCT. I am truly grateful for your web page for the education and information. I have added you to my credits. Thank you.
